Had Sid for 6 month now and so proud of how well he's coming along! Gone from rearing and spinning round and being absolutly uncontrollable in open spaces to being a happy relaxed little horse. He now hacks out alone or in company with out any problems and is completely controllable in open spaces and stops with very little contact he schools well and loves sj and cross country just so proud of how well he's doing :D

Thanks guys!

The first few weeks to a month I didn't ride at all just did a lot of work on the ground walking him in hand letting him get used to everything I don't think he'd seen a lot of the world at least not recently anyway then started lunging him. I didn't have much idea what he was like with anything tbh as he's been out of work before I took him on l.

When I first started riding him it was just walking around the farm letting him get used to everything then started taking him out proply alone at first as he's an ex racer and didn't want to risk a group incase it hotted him up. As soon as his feet touched grass the first few times he would jog sideways or rear if the contact was more than he wanted so I took him back to walking around the tracks and got him used to accepting contact and accepting the bit rather than just throwing his head up and charging. It's really just been a case of taking things very slowly and back to basics as he was much like a youngster in the fact that he didn't really understand what was being asked of him as it was a whole new experience for him. As he got more used to listening to aids I began taking him on fields and mainly walking with a short trot and coming back to walk then building up the trot then adding a smal canter but making sure I didn't let him get away from me and that he was stop able. It was just a case of building it up and allowing him to trust me he seems to of been passed around alot looking at his passport and hasn't realy had a chance to build a bond and trust anyone which he has with me and this has been the main changing point he's so willing to please and although he does still have his moments I couldn't of wished for a better outcome out of the ottb I bought from the field with no guarantee he could even be ridden he's such a lovely boy and won't be being passed about again :)
