My OH had his third riding lesson last night and was so good! I'm getting worried that he'll be better than me very quickly

He managed rising trot on his first lesson, and last night he looked completely comfy in the saddle with a lovely seat. The horse even got a bit over-excited and did a mini-rear and canter - he calmly sat there, turned him and stopped him. Very impressive!

Now he wants to book a weekend riding somewhere in the UK. I was thinking New Forest, Wales or the Lakes. Can anyone recommend somewhere that is good for novices (he should be cantering by the time we go) without being too ploddy?

Hi there, you could take a look at this place www.caeiago.co.uk i used to live near them before i moved from wales and went there quite a few times just for the day. They are really friendly people, nice horses, that will plod, but will also go if you ask them to. They cater for all types of riders and have some great rides. Beuatiful scenery and the local area if you want to wonder is very nice too. I know a few people that go time and again as they always seemed to be there when i went! Hope this helps in your decision?

I went on a trek in the new forest and it is really pretty countryside especially in the summer when all the foals are about. There are loads of trekking place around there aswell

For something a bit different http://www.valleyfarmonline.co.uk/ got my novice (1hr on lead-rein before we went) OH hacking, trotting over poles, carriage driving, vaulting, western riding (including some 'loping' and a fun mini-competition) in a weekend! Side-saddle heaps of fun too. Amazing holiday in their self-catering cabin but hotels nearby too.

I've been here too and would fully recommend it.

Also, my OH was the same as yours. And is now riding my tricky mare, after having only been riding about 3 months. And when she canters off with him, whereas I get terrified, he laughs and sits back and sits to her lovely.

DAMN!!!!

Lol!! Reckon he'll be the same, he's keen to sign a disclaimer and get on a "crazy horse" as he puts it!

Thanks to all for the recommendations, I'll take a look at all of them
