I've now been doing agility with my gsd for 4 weeks (none last week because of bank holiday), anyway she's come on in leaps and bounds :D, she can now do the high dog walk and is jumping at medium height. She loves the jumping and the tunnel, doesn't mind the weave but until tonight has been unsure of the dog walk and A frame, well tonight she found her dog walk legs and when she realised it wasn't that bad she didn't look back!.
The change in her has been amazing, she isn't hiding under my seat between turns anymore she is sitting proud and watching the other dogs, she even thought about playing with the manic collie puppy tonight but then her nerve deserted her. She is a totally different dog on walks too, there's no lunging at other dogs and although I haven't let her off lead in an area where there are other dogs I'm confident if she keeps going the way she is it won't be long but I'm not going to rush things. I'm so chuffed with her :)

Yay, keep up the good work, Shepherds love a job! Any pics? :)

I'm building up to the 1m hurdle with my young one, he has learned to bounce (I need him to go over and back instead of one way) and the A-frame too, he is grasping it all really quickly (and don't need to drag him over with the long line :p)

I hope to get some pics next week of her actually doing agility but this is her

playing in the snow with our other dog.....the s****y springer ;)

She doesn't have a problem with bouncing, in fact she thinks she's a little dog and keeps trying to bounce into my arms! We've only done the A frame for one session but she was getting the hang of it by the end. Her main problem is she likes jumping anti clockwise but everything else she prefers clockwise but hopefully that will improve as she gets more confident.

She's a neurotic pain in the bum but I love her :D Most people don't believe she's a pedigree gsd because of her colour and she's got quite a long thin face, but unfortunately she was bred for colour from a line of dogs who were all bred for colour with no concern for any possible health problems :(

Naw, lovely puppy :)

Quick q, could you do agility bar the jumping bits with a gsd cross with hip issues? Just for fun you know to keep them amused :)

The majority of it is jumping or climbing so I wouldn't think it would be a very good idea.:( You could try tracking though or search and find type games.

Stencil, we do puppy agility classes with the jump poles on the floor, a tiny little A-frame, dog walk on the ground etc. and it's more of an obedience exercise than anything, would be fine for the dodgy of hip I'd imagine if you can find a similar class. :)

Lovely pics OP and ignore the naysayers, she's clearly a very speshul apricot GSD. :p :D

Nip the clockwise/anti clockwise preference in the bud as soon as you can, I've ended up with a dog who weaves perfectly with me on the left but is inconsistent on the right, wish I'd been more insistent from day one!

See I thought she was a cream sable but according to her breeder she carries the very rare 'timberwolf' gene
We always do the course both ways so she gets worked equally on both sides :)

I think both the breeder and I pulled those terms out of our behinds. :p

To be fair her colouring is similar to what would be described as 'wolf grey' in huskies so I can see where they were coming from. Regardless, she looks lovely. :)

I'm a sable freak and I would not call her a sable TBH....sable is typically dark/sables improve pigment, the hairs are banded, also at least one parent has to be sable to throw a sable, and I am not sure that sables can be maskless, to me she is a very paled-out black and gold, but piccies are always deceptive!

Timberwolf eh! I like the 'apricot' description, actually :p :)

Thankyou, I think they came up with the timberwolf thing to try to get more people to buy the puppies  She did terrify the local kids when we first moved into our current house as they thought we had a wolf, a fact we of course soon corrected :p

Question for you CC, is sable the same thing as agouti? Any colour or pattern is permissible in sibes and I've heard of agouti but never a sable one.

Her 'saddle' is cream with black tips hence the sable, she is also exactly the same colouring as her sire, her dam was almost like a husky in her markings. Sables can also be maskless although it's not common. That's why I said she was bred for colour, her breeders and her parents breeders all breed to try to get unusual colours.

No idea, you might have to ask some of the colour experts!! I think it is part of the agouti series but different breeds have different definitions of what their 'sable' is. There is no word for sable in the GSD in German, it is just literally 'grey and brown'. There is a good article on the Arlett.de website which I have linked here a couple of times.

ETA Spiritedly, to me, sable in the GSD would automatically mean dark grey or a dog with a lot of grey in the coat.

I think apricot suits her.:D For a more boring description I would probably go with paling black and gold, the fact that she has black tips to her coat doesn't necessarily mean she is sable, Evie has this and she is definitely black and gold. Malcom Willis always said a true sable would have a black tip to its tail, whereas a paled black and gold would have a gold tip.
