My gsd is a bit of a pain in the butt, she's not the best with other dogs and as she's got older has only got worse, she's now 2 yrs and walks are a nightmare. Anyway I started agility with her tonight and she was an angel, she started on lead but within 10 minutes was off lead with other dogs running around taking their turns and she didn't even show a sign of wanting to eat them. She was even running towards them whilst doing the course and again showed no interest in them only in what she was doing and in me. Even when the dogs for the next class came in as we were preparing to leave she ignored them. She's now mentally and physically tired and so am I, but I can't wait till next week, tonight reminded me of the fun she used to be to take out and renewed my hope that it will be that way again. I'm soooo proud of her :D

Congratulations!! We had a small breakthrough at puppy class this week too, Pepper didn't squish anyone and didn't yank me around the whole 90 mins (just for 60mins!). I like the look of agility, its looks like fun, will be giving it a go when puppy is old enough.

Glad your girl enjoyed her agility. Often if they are a bit gobby with other dogs giving them something to do helps them to concentrate on what they are doing rather than what is going on around them. Its possible that you (understandably) tense when you meet other dogs whilst out on walks whereas at agility you were too busy trying to remember the course etc:p. I hope she continues to behave and goes from strength to strength.

Give them a job to do and they concentrate on it and dont bother with the other stuff, Darcy was exactly the same, dogs have run up to her in the ring and she has just ignored them.

Its nice when things go according to plan.:)

Agree, GSDs need a job to do, my older dog improved hugely when he started tracking training. I am now have another young dog, I am hopelessly addicted to dog sport, it's what I spend all my spare time and money on, I am on about three committees and travel up and down the country and have been to Europe to spectate at events - but would never have walked through the door of the training club or be doing what I do now if he hadn't been a gobby sod who I could not walk down the street with!!!

Keep up the good work :)

Thanks everyone, I know shepherds are happier when they have a job to do but I was surprised at how quickly she knuckled down and got on with it . I have a feeling I'm going to have to start running faster if I want to keep up with her
