Went out to deliver the parish mag this morning. My first stop is a dairy farm (I walk). Sat the four dogs up at the entrance to the farmyard and went and posted the mag. Came back and a farm cat is weaving it’s way round them. ?. Their eyes are out on stalks but no one has moved a muscle. Scout did stand up when I came back into sight but stayed where he’d been put.
The farmer had seen and popped out to say she was impressed so it could have been very embarrassing indeed ?

It's lovely when people notice how well behaved your dogs are, especially when you know what hard work has gone into getting them to that stage, isn't it?

The spaniel does not get walked. She gets trained. Then we both lie down and pant for a bit! ?

It helped that it didn’t run away! But out shooting I’ve left them to go for a wee and a hare ran between them and they didn’t move. It’s why people have Labradors ?

You are entitled to be a proud owner that all your hard work has paid off. Well done the dogs.

(My parents' Dalmation was on a long line with me once and I only just managed to stop him going over a six foot wall when he was being taunted by a cat).

At home I let or even encourage them to chase cats so I’m pleased they have learned to differentiate.
