Have just returned from four days in County Laois in Southern Ireland, with my showjumping team competing in the Tri Equestrian International Showjumping Competition.
We shipped six horses and a huge support team on a 13 hr journey across the water. I am team manager for Rochdale & District Riding Club, whose Open SJ team won the British Riding Club's National Championships at Lincoln in 2008. Subsequently, we were invited to compete in the Association of Irish Riding Clubs as England's representatives.
We arrrived at Stradbally Hall on Thursday evening, spent Friday chilling and hacking around the beautiful grounds (thanks Laura for lending me Milo)! Saturday was successful with 3 of our riders finishing in the top ten in the 1:10m class and a 3rd place in the Power and Performance. We went for a meal that evening with Association of Irish Riding Clubs (AIRC) representatives (which was lovely - and we are sincerely grateful for the financial support, kindness and hospitality provided by them prior and during the competition, and Thomas Cosby, the owner of Stradbally Hall, who provided more that enough support and encouragement - more than our own association cared to provide)!!!!
On Sunday, our reserve riders competed in the Take Your Own Line, which produced a thrilling competition and we had a 2nd and 3rd place. Later that day, in the Tri Equestrian International Team showjumping event, our team beat the best in Ireland and became AIRC champions!
I am soooo proud of my team, and our reserves (who acted professionally and performed to their upmost in their individual classes after learning they would not be on the team). I hate telling people they will not be on the team, but they were extremely sensible and pulled out brilliant performances in the Take Your Own Line classes.
WELL DONE EVERYONE - BY ONE VERY PROUD TEAM MANAGER (who was VERY jealous not to be competing...........however, Uno is coming on in leaps and bounds and will be chasing your tails this time next year, lol)
Many, many thanks for the efforts with the fundraising to enable us to pay for the trip, and very many thanks for the numerous local companies and supporters who sponsored us. Thanks to John Whitaker International who provided us with saddlecloths and jackets (nice one Stacey), and following this, perhaps the BRC will provide a bit more support to whoever receives the invitaton next year. The AIRC provide 500 euros per horse to send their representatives to our BRC champs - we received nothing.
But, never mind, that is another debate - WE DID IT! Well done all (Laura, Harriet, Dan, Kate, Clare and Christine)
Brilliant! x
