Providing light via generators

We have just purchased 4 acres next to the house and are in the design process of stables etc, now as money is fast flowing through my fingers I can't at the minute afford to connect to the main electricity supply, albeit all the cables will be there for when I do.


I will want a generator to supply light to 2 stables and fed store, does anyone else do ot this way, which generator did you buy and how much does it cost to run.

We live in an area where the electricity regularly just goes off so invested in a generator. It is huge but runs house, bungalow, 9 stables, barn, school lights, hay room and 2 feed rooms. It was very expensive..around 10 grand but not too bad to connect up and run. Obviously you won't need anything as big so it should be much cheaper.
Sorry I can't give you definite costs as oh dealt with all that malarkey.

We were going to set one up at last yard. Bought a generator, but then realised would cost quite a lot in fuel (we bought a humongous generator, can easily run the clippers, etc. off it

)

So, we decided on 24 volt lights to run off two 12 volt Leisure batteries instead. The batteries are about £80 each(something about Leisure ones being better at this type of drain), and the lights were around £20 each (from memory!) - apparently the lights aren't brilliantly bright so you'd need a few.

Hi there,
Mum had a genny at the farm so we nicked that but found some great outdoor contractors lights in Arco they are a set of 10 and come with lots of cable length,protection cages and bulbs ( all for about £50. They took about an hour to set up 2 in each stable and 2 outside and even if one blows the others still light, and costs pennies to run.

I bought a fantastic generator from Aldi's! It runs the light in my barn, feed room, outside lights, clippers, all my OH's power tools and a kettle if nothing else is on (kettles apparently have a huge energy useage) I'm sure it was under 200 pounds and I can start it myself which is a huge bonus!

A word of warning, I bought a little one for 80 pounds last year, it ran the lights fine but was a nightmare to start and really only lasted one year, so don't waste your money!
