Providing 'stuff' on DIY livery yards

According to what I've heard, going to the toilet have sometimes been a much more social thing than what it is now. I've heard that a hundred years or more back, in some Swedish farm homes, the toilet was one of few places where you could have a private conversation with someone, because for example in the house, there was almost always other people around.
There have also been some royals, which has in history went to the toilet in public, e.g. Louis XIV of France, and if we go even further back, what used to be public toilets in ancient Rome looks to have been very public.

In this day and age it could be a sqeeze to fit bottoms in such close proximity!

At one BHS approved yard the loo was so bad [damp] that the paper was kept in the tack room, not ideal, I used to throw a bucket of clean water in to the loo every so often, otherwise it was never cleaned. I used my horse's stable most days for a pee, but he was not happy about that .. horses!
Most people can train themselves to be regular, so paper is for emergency use.
