Sorry - sure this been done before but I couldn't find it on a search...

So - we have just bought a 7.5 tonne lorry... I can drive it and one of my sisters can cos we passed our tests before 1997.

My other sister is 26 - but passed her driving test in 1998...

So - can she get a provisional licence to learn in the lorry? So she can take the LGV test

Or does she need a medical?? The info on the web is really confusing...

And can she learn in our lorry on a provisional licence or does she have to enrol on a course?

Does anyone know?

yes she needs a medical and telll her to get a provisional HGV (the 2 tests are the same and same price so she might as well take the bigger one)

As long as you have L plates and have been driving for longer than 3 years and are sitting next to her you should be fine

So... next question... do you contact the DVLA for the medical? And the provisional licence?

no you get everything from the postoffice - go to your doctor to have the medical filled out (about £50)

Or call DVLA and get them to send you the form s

you know what i find ammusing (and fustrating)?
because towing a trailer is done by weight, i can tow one empty (maybe with a small pony in) but not with my horse in it!!!
completly daft, especialy as if you put majic L plates on you are suddenly deemed a capable driver and even allowed on motorways!!!!!. simply amazing what a bit of white plastic can do.

i suppose i could always put her a a diet (?) but as she'd have to shrink from 17.2 down to about 13hh, i think this is a tad drastic!

I am glad I had to do the trailer test if I am honest... I feel so much more confident driving it, and there is no way i would have been able to manouvre it like I can without those lessons.
