As per title really. Horse lame again 15 months after successful neurectomy and fasciotomy. Lameness to me feels like a carbon copy of the lameness prior to surgery. Vet coming out on Friday so I'm jumping the gun and panicking, as I often do, but would like to hear of any cases of the nerve re-growing so that I can prepare myself in case this is what it is.

Thanks in advance.

My vet spoke to me regarding neurectomy if my horse didnt recover from her tendon injury. It hasnt come to that so far but he did say that the nerves can re-generate after about 2yrs so this may be whats happened in your case - a bit earlier.

Very interesting. My horse had the op 3 and a half months ago and now looks no different to how he was before. Very annoyed as I went up the vets after 8 weeks rest etc and she said he was absolutely fine and she was very pleased with the results. I was not convinced as he was still knocking his hind toe. Still doing it now sometimes looking slightly lame and sometimes not. I dont believe it has regrown but when I spoke to her she was quite blase and said "Ill get another vet to come out and inject his hock". Oh right why?!! And she said sometimes they have slight changes in the hock due to not using their leg correctly with the injury. I am very unhappy with it all but do have the vet coming out tomorrow.

Sorry to hear the op hasn't been successful for your horse. Hopefully you get some more apporiate answers tomorrow. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

It could be that we have something like hock changes then...

Did your horse have the nerve block before hand to see whether the surgery should be successful? I assume so, but with vets you just never know

Oh no I am so very sorry to hear this news. When I took Rory to Rossdales & they suggested this op for him, they were adamant that the nerve wouldn't regrow after the PSD op but said if I had his feet done then those nerves would regrow. Really hope you get some good news xx

I haven't had the op done but did discuss it with my vet, who is a lameness expert and he said that it could re-grow. Sorry, it wont be what you want to hear and I hope isn't the case for you :(:(

My vet saw him today and thinks it has regrown :( We're going to try injecting it with steroids to reduce pain and inflammation but I get a feeling that this is last ditch effort. I love this horse so much. Why is he doomed?
