So just to throw another problem at us the vet now thinks my horse has PSD.... Does anyone have any experiences with this condition as well as the surgery required and if it's not too rude can I ask how much it cost? I have a budget in mind of what I will spend to try and get him right and I cannot go over his insurance limit...

My mate was diagnosed with psd 6 weeks ago after being lame for 9 months and after all 3k insurence being used on investigations including a bone scan which didn't pick it up,I had 4 different vets out in the end!
She had the surgery Wednesday and I got her back home last night,I opted for surgery as she'd been chronicly lame for so long and wasn't going to bother with shockwave as its one of her hinds with only a 30% chance comeback and would have cost nearly as much as the op,she's only 5 rising 6 so I've gone for it to give her a chance
The op was about 1k and I've been sent away with muscle injections and bute and dressings so that's obs going to be extra
She being rested now for two weeks followed by 10 mins hand walking x2 daily building up to 60 over the following 6 weeks,so I've just got to follow instructions now and hope for the best 😊

That is so helpful - thanks, Was she done under a GA? I was expecting it to cost much, much more TBH. I really hope you have a good outcome for your mare :-)

My vet is using shockwave therapy and its £600 per session (Bilateral hind legs) 3 sessions at 2 week intervals to give you a idea of costs. good luck & join facebook PSD forum for more info.
