So it all started with a lethargic horse...bloods all came back clean, even EMS eventually! So that's good. What's not good is the diagnoses of PSD. Vet would like to send horse for surgery, will cost around 3k hopefully insurance will cover it although all the diagnostics are eatng into the money as we speak. But I have not made up my mind. Part of me says "go for it with the insurance money but will have to stop if we blow the budget" part of me thinks "is it really in his best interests"
Firstly said horse is a sod to box rest, he's not much better in the paddock, gets in a right old state when other horses go past or his friend goes out. I am also slightly skeptical of the surgery as surely it just masks the problem and you are still in effect riding a lame horse. Will the ligaments get even more damaged and the horse can't feel them? Horse is used for dressage, so needs to be able to be schooled again. Vets are obviously pushing for the surgery. The other thing I'm worried about is this is only the start and we will find more and more issues along the way.
Does anyone have experiences of this?
