My horse was diagnosed with psd in both hinds this week. She is currently on 8 weeks box rest and then 8 weeks of controlled exercise before the vet wants to check her progress. The vet has also suggested turning her away for a few months at this point and I'm happy to try it but we have very limited winter turnout, so I would have to send her away. Does anybody have any experience of turning a horse with psd away? How long would be a suitable time? Can anybody recommend anywhere that does retirement livery? (I'm thinking that's the kind of package I'd need). Sorry for the long post, my head is spinning at the moment!

i've been there, and the one thing i would strongly recommend is that you don't turn away anywhere that will be muddy over the winter. Somewhere very flat and level with sandy soil, so that your horse doesn't have to drag herself through thick mud - its murder on fragile suspensories
