Pseudomonas in sinuses?

My mare has been in hospital for a month now,after having had a tooth extracted. The accompanying sinusitus would not clear up, despite antibiotics, flushing and removal of the necrotic bone and tissue. The vet phoned today and said that one of the cultures has come back with a bug called Pseudomonas, which is antibiotic resistant bug. They are now going to try a different approach. Has anyone's horse ever had Pseudomonas in the sinuses, what was the treatment and the eventual outcome (however bad, please). I have read all the stuff on the internet, but it doesn't seem to say much about when it is in the sinuses. Thanks
 
I had a very similar experience when my boy had his tooth extracted by GA. All was well for about 6 mths doing the usual flushing and AB, then the awful smell came back, more AB, reopened the trephine hole which was above his eye so more flushing. It went again but then came back, more horrendous smelling snot so vet trephined him in the lower sinus, below his eye and he had injectable AB, cant remember what drug it was as culture came back, showing something found in cattle??? This went on for about 2 yrs, trephine site was closed and at first we treated with AB but he didnt respond to that. I found he got a smelly discharge every few months, was well in himself and it cleared up by itself within about a week. That was 8 yrs ago now and the time between these 'attacks' has got longer, even a couple of years. He had another smelly bout 2 weeks ago with some yellow snot but its gone again now, oddly from his other nostril so I hope theres no issues starting there. Ive had to learn to live with it, Jay is himself, it comes and goes and there doesnt seem to be any other issues.
I was warned there is a high rate of complications. I dont do anything about it now as it clears up within about a week. It was awful at first as he looked like he had strangles and I was competing at the time with a piece of cotton wool in his trephine hole and a letter from my vet saying what was wrong with him incase there was any complaints about his discharge.
I hope your horse is ok, I got told all sorts of horror stories, like his head will be eaten away by the 'bug' but he still looks like he did 8 yrs ago bar a couple of small dents from the trephine.
