Our 16 year old TB ex-point-to-pointer has always been "psycho mare" but has been "safe psycho".....until now! She's due to foal next Spring and my daughter had hoped to continue riding her for several months and do some light cubbing (sorry - autumn hunting!) with her (she's actually easier to hunt than hack!). However, since her return from stud, she has just got worse and worse (I actually posted a week or so ago asking for suggestions for "brakes") and is now infact becoming dangerous. My daughter used to describe her as the safest horse you could possibly ride - ultra-lively, strong and bouncy but totally predictable and SAFE (never bucks, rears, spooks etc). But now she's not only unstoppable but trots around her own huge field almost LOOKING for things to "frighten" herself with...and that's when she's turned out with her "chums" - cranky mare! My daughter came back from a short ride on her today, saying "I'm retiring her!" (that is, until after the foal is born!) "She's dangerous!". Only two trots and the sweat was pouring off of her. Forgot to mention that she's living out at the moment on good pasture, receives no shortfeed and, when she came in from the field this morning, my daughter tied her up in the yard and she was SHAKING with excitement! Anyway, before we turn her away completely, I'd like to hear what you lot out there have to say about "calmers"! I rang Blue Clip today (we swear by their products!) to enquire about their new product, "Karma". They told me that they've have good feed-back but I wonder whether it's likely to have any benefit for our cranky Scare McClare! SO.......has anyone out there used this product OR can anyone recommend a calmer which actualy works and is safe for an in-foal mare???? Look forward to hearing from you!
