PTS livery loss

I think I've said this before but PTS is a completely valid option. I have known people do it for financial reasons as well as horse health reasons, which is equally valid. Quinn has never been your heart horse and you have done so much for him despite that, to your great credit. It sounds like the situation is becoming increasingly complex and has been impacting your mental health for some time.

Aside from that, the bullying by the herd is a worry. Indio has always been bottom of the pecking order but even so I keep an eye on the dynamics as a herd will tend to reject a horse that is in pain / weak.

The advice to keep your decision to a small group is sound, people will always have strong views but tbh it's none of their business. PTS is not a welfare issue, it's not cruel and is an entirely personal choice.

Big hug whichever way you go!

Thank everyone and @Boulty for your kindness and message. I’m not quite at peace with letting him go but it may come sooner than later. I will get the vet out to assess his general health at some point. I doubt very much she’ll think he’s a pts case but you never know!
You don't have to use a vet. You can make the decision and use the local fallen stock person. I have always heard that they are sympathetic and professional and it is very quick.

Thank you @j1ffy you’ve known me a long enough time to know this isn’t what I want. I’m just trying to navigate best I can for both of us.

When I had my last mare pts. a good friend the mares breeder recommended a local chap. He was kind and very quick recommended him to another friend who also used him

Pretty much what I was going to say. A horses health should not be put before your own.

Yep, exactly when its one who doesnt sound like hes bought much pressure. You dont owe him anything

He's also unridable, you shouldn't feel you have to give him a retirement if its costing you money and your own wellbeing
