Pts services help please

Having to make the hard decision to have my shetland sent to heaven, its not fair to put her through another winter. I've been recommended either Steve from coopers livestock services, or lizzie from earth 2 heaven, as they are relatively close to me (forest of dean) Bea absolutely freaks out at vets and needles so euthanasia isn't an ideal option, would be much less stressful to have her shot at home. Wondering if anyone has experience of lizzie or Steve?

Lizzie is amazing IME, mine went with a packet of polos in his mouth (that she brought) knowing nothing. He didn’t freak at vets but was always very wary but wasn’t with her at all.

She was also super understanding about booking in as we were having to try and time it with me being able to get back to Somerset and when the owner could have our loan companion back too. She got held up with an emergency but msgd to let us know.

I don’t know anyone who has had a bad experience with her.

I don’t know if this is any help, but when we were in Wales, I had Oakfield Equine from Llandrindod Wells to collect my mare, and looking at their website they cover all over. They were lovely and I believe they do the PTS too if required.

could they not give her acp tablets to sedate her before the lethal injection??

There is no need to put the poor horse through that if OP, who has decided on the method she wants to use, can find a recommended operative. We have a very good Equine Crematorium locally and in almost every case, I prefer to use them. Unfortunately I am not in OP's area.

I was merely mentioning acp as we had a livery's horse who hated needles and thought the only way was the gun, so she asked the vet about acp and then between them they used it and put the pony down by injection.

There are some members on here younger ones who don't know about acp, she may have decided to ask her vet had her preference been injection but couldn't due to the pony being needle phobic. My post was a question, and I was waiting for the OP to reply as it is up to them.

I believe the BHS link to the fallen stock service via Equine End of Life is countrywide, so you could always ask who they would have locally. They're lovely and the service from the 'man on the ground' was kind and professional when we used them.

I held a friend's horse when he was shot. It was instantaneous and he was dead before he hit the ground. It would be my choice for my own horse, depending on the circumstances of him needing to be pts and where he was when it happened.

He was really good, I had bumbles there to calm her down and so she would also understand. My friend then led bumbles to the field, bea was really calm and dropped instantly. I then took bumbles up the hill for a lovely hack

I'm so sorry for the loss of your lovely Bea. You did the very best that you could to ensure a quick and peaceful passing.
I hope that Bumbles settles without too much trouble, without Bea.
