I had my lovely boy pts last week, due to a rare fracture to his tubular coxa ( left side of his pelvis) . This was caused by a trauma to the point of his pelvis. As tom was buzzy he used to run around the field so we think he probably did the splits. we had tried for six months to get him back to normal. We tried the tildren and shock wave treatments but both were useless. My vet had only seen it twice in his whole career. We had advice from top vets in the country who had also only seen it once or twice.and they didn't end up coming sound apart from one (but I don't know what level of work) He was on box rest for months and last week we got him out to check for improvement but the poor pony was crippled and obviously in pain because when the vet touched it he would flip. He would try kick and bite which he never ever had done before. The box rest was suppose to give him time to heal but it didn't work. So I made the decision to put him to sleep as he was obviously hurting and I couldn't put him through any more. Very sad outcome for us but I know I tried everything I could! :( just thought I would share my story, and try and find anyone else who has been through this??? Thanks, Abbie

So sorry to hear about your boy, but he knew you loved and you did all you could for him. He's no longer in pain! Sending hugs from OK!!!

How heartbreaking for you. I'm so sorry but admire your courage and determination to do all you could for him, including making the final decision that every owner dreads.
Thinking of you.x

Oh bless you :(

My mare is currently very lame and i've already had the dreaded thought, and brings me to tears.

(((hugs)))

I had to have my boy PTS a few weeks ago. He was a quirky and very difficult to handle on ground and ridden towards the last six months 17 year old ex racer. Had three wonderful years with him, he developed kissing spines and there was something else going on too. I definately think you did right by your horse!!! So many people keep horses going that are unhappy for their own reasons and own emotions without thinking how the bloody horse feels!!!

Be confident in your decision that you did the right thing, you didnt allow your horse to suffer anymore and didnt pass it on because you were too weak to make a decent decision :)

Hugs x

Arw :( I'm sorry to hear you lost yours too. It's such a hard thing to do, but as you say you need to think of them and not you. Thankyou! X

It's always hard for those of us left behind, doesn't make it easier to bear but some consolation knowing that your boy is in a better place, I like to think of mine with the sun on his back, lots of grass and not a care in the world - emotional claptrap to some but I don't care xx
