Tried this yesterday. No problem getting there (surprisingly) but, what do you do with the ned whilst you get the well earned reward? (Pint):D

I mean you can't take him into the bar, the door's too low!

Feel a "why the long face" joke coming on.....

I take it you went on a pub ride on your own then? hmmmmmmmmmm shout in and say can you bring me out a drink please???? Take a leadrope and tie horse in the beer garden??? Ask a passerby if they would mind grabbing youn a drink or phone the pub lol xx

Me and a friend did one once, but..my horse pood in the carpark! I was so embarrased I didnt know what to do - couldnt exactly put it in a plastic bag! And it wasnt near a flower bed so I couldnt kick it in....:S

The pub we were at must be used to horses as they had a special shovel.:D And we did have to use it.:o

Our RC do a few a year :) Have also gone for a drink on a ride with friends, can't imagine how to manage on your own, works ok if more than one, as one holds the horses and the other gets the drinks :) Mind you it can get a bit exciting if the local YFC are practicing Tug O' War in the beer garden the horses are standing in!

thoose 2 horses are exceptional to be fair, in the garden bit theres a set of swings etc, they dont car about the kids playing on them, in the field where the caravan is we always have a canter around that, last time we was there they erected a huge t p thing in it again horses didnt care. lol .

secret is plant them by good grass! worse happens they break the string!

my cob is a sod for a chip..

Move to Dartmoor - lots of pubs have somewhere to tie your horse. Few pints makes me ride much better  - but the problem on way home is lack of anything to hide behind for those inevitable calls of nature :D

We used to do it all the time with our hunters - great fun! Have even been known to stop off at the pub on the way back from hunting...
I would make sure the landlord is happy about having horses on his grass or tied to his fence...perhaps pop in the night before your intended pub ride. I guess it depends on the part of the country you are in, some pubs are very horse friendly.
We would generally just nominate people to hold a couple of horses while we got their drinks. You do need well mannered horses not to knock your drink out of your hand, and trying to eat anything more than a sarnie or a packet of crisps is a bit ambitious!
We regularly rode across the Cotswolds to one pub...my husband's mare was really attached to the horse I was riding for a friend at the time, and when he wandered off a bit far one time as we were having a drink, she managed to stand on her own hoof and pull a back shoe off! :)
So the two hour ride back was all on the grass verge for her and the husband....
Another great story involves some friends who run a riding school and regularly took clients to the pub. One guy, luckily on his own horse, was a bit tipsy on the local cider, and actually managed to fall off while trying to get back on. His horse galloped off down the adjacent bridleway and took itself all the way home with my friends in hot pursuit. The rider's very unamused wife then had to collect him from the pub :D

Or a small paddock! Our old one had a small half acre fenced bit next to the beer garden and used to let the horses be turned out in it whilst we stopped there for an afternoon for lunch and drinkies :D

A few of the pubs in Dorset had tie up rings all ready - and would even bring out carrots for the horses!

A tip for you though, don't wander out the back of the pub trying to get signal on your phone and leave your horse with 'friends;' it's rather disconcerting to find your horse at the bar eating peanuts upon your return :)

We either hold them or tie them up, depends on the pub. If hairy cob boy is with us, he generally ends up giving rides to a collection of tots who drag embarassed parents over to pet him. He absolutely adores small children.
The horses are always good as gold, even grazing quietly beside us while we have a lunch on the grass.

A pub in the peak district is happy for you to take your horse to the bar, as long as it doesn't mind squeezing past the 15 dogs, guinea pigs, cats, kestrals and other random animals already having a pint! They frequently have more animals than people, and don't mind poop scooping indoors!

I'm not sure I'd fancy that pub, might get more than a drink!!! :O
