Just trying to work out the best way of buying public/personal liability. I have insurance for 2 of my ponies, but not for the third.

So thinking of cancelling this section for the other 2 and buying one annual insurance for all 3 ponies.

Is the BHS the best one for this?

And what does this cover? If my horses escaped and injured someone or their property?

Would it cover my liability to a 3rd person if I was to have a traffic accident while riding?

I find the whole thing so confusing - thanks

Can I suggest you phone SEIB - they provide the thirdparty/liability cover that is included in the BHS Gold Membership and will be able to give you the best advice.

You need to have third party public liability cover to £10,000,000 (Ten Million Pounds). A recent court case confirmed that the owner of a horse is responsible for any accident or injury that it causes even if it is not the owners fault that it escaped or caused the accident.

Your cheapest route is to joint the BHS as a Gold Member. You also get the advantage of use aof a free legal help line and a magazine. Well worth the price.

Can I just ask as we are talking insurance. If someone falls off your horse and say breaks an arm or is slightly injured, can they claim off you even if it was in no way your fault.

Also can they claim from you even if they have accident insurance if they can prove negligence on your part.

I don't know that one either! Would that be public liability or something else?
