Publicity stunt or act of goodwill?

Both! By performing an act of goodwill - which I think this is - he is getting good publicity.
If he just donated the money himself, the needs and the achievements of these athletes would go un-noticed. For someone as wealthy as Sir Paul, it would probably be the easy option for him to just donate the money.

Are you kidding?

Obviously you aren't aware of how PR and fundraising works?
To get a "name" like PM to promote your fundraising will REALLY help raise awareness - he's got a huge fan base and the majority of these people won't know one end of a horse to another - if he just donated the money - all of these potentially money donating/sponsoring parties won't be involved - what will happen next time? Should he pay out again???

On the other side of things - poor PM - he is involved with fundraising for 100s of charities - if he gave away his millions so easily then he wouldn't be very rich for very long would he!

Kanter, I think that is very cynical and rather ungrateful attitude. This man is giving his time and money to highlight a very worthy cause. What has he got to gain out of it? He certainly doesn't need the publicity. He is using his fame to raise the profile of these very special people and hopefully enable them to fulfill their dreams.

I think it is wonderful that such a famous face is supporting the para-equestrian team and raising their profile, not just his.

Although I was tempted to add a post regarding his attraction towards ladies with removable limbs!!!!!!!!! Only joking, honest!!!! LOL

Cynical maybe, but I don't think ungrateful is appropriate as it doesn't benefit me either way.

I can see the value of the additional PR, so fair enough.

Still not convinced it's an entirely altruistic gesture though.

BTW the original post was meant to be a little tongue in cheek.... song and dance... he has donated a song? Never mind, it's a long time till Friday.....

i think that in many 'celebrity' cases they may well have an ulerior motive IN ADDITION to charitable feelings but as someone said Macca hardly needs PR himself does he? and the thing is, the others involved couldnt say no when he asked them could they which he is probably aware of, in which case he actually used his fame entirely to get his way on behalf of the Para's. good for him if it raisses loads of money and stops people bitching about the cost of horse sports.

Mmmm it's wonderful to get a name like PM involved in this.

However, is it to score brownie points with the ex I wonder??

Either way - good on you Macca.

What charitable donation is totally altruistic. None, people donate to charity because it makes them feel good, because it raise their profile, etc etc.

No one does it without an ulterior motive even if they think they do. But thank goodness these people do get something out of it because it means that they will keep on giving.

Don't question the motives for donations (who cares?) just be glad that they do.

I think this is great, as people have said to get his name behind the para-olympic team is brilliant!!!!

Im sorry but this country and probably the rest of the world NEVER do any decent coverage of the para-olympics which i really think is absolutly disgusting!! I for one would probably watch this more than the actual olympics itself.

Why can this be a bad thing..it can only be good and about blumming time!!!!

PSML - tears runnng down my face at that one. Funniest thing I've read in ages !!

Now I'll put my more serious head on and say I thought that Ad was wonderful, very well put together and powerful. I really like PM and even if he is doing it to promote himself it'll still bring in the much needed cash so why not both parties gain from it?

No way is this a publicity stunt, like he needs to, he is one of the most famous men in the world. How fab that he is supporting this, they will get exposure that can only do the sport good. Good on ya Macca (like he will read this lol).
Not seen the ad yet.
