Watching the Puissance on BBC 1 Red Button right now and they are all brilliant, wouldn't catch me having the guts to jump like that; but I am REALLY not impressed with the final Italian rider (his name eludes me at this moment in time, I do apologise). Not only is he dressed very bizarrely, after the jump he was pulling back so hard on his (double) bridle that he was literally white knuckled.

All of the rest though, WOW, brilliant riders, just what every young horsey girl/boy dreams of doing! Also, what a jump that Belgian horse has. Just amazing.

Can't comment on riding style as only just tuned in, but if Italian would not be surprised if riding in military uniform which could be why it looks different.

Ahh I think he is, please excuse me, I don't want to offend anyone but I'm not personally a fan of it in a showjumping setting. And I am never usually one to turn my nose up at a man in a uniform haha!!

*Edited to say that it wasn't a one off too, identical riding in his second round. His 'contact' is really unrelenting throughout, including walking back up the walkway, out of the arena...*

The Italian who won a few years ago, Lucca something, on a mare was a lovely rider - horse in snaffle too, no spurs or martingale - shame he's not competing

I think he might be having control issues. I've never seen a double bridle with a martingale before.

I've seen plenty of people hunting with a double bridle and a running martingale, and also competing in working hunters in the same tack. Quite traditional set up tbh although the running martingale ring should be on the bradoon rein only, not both.

Double bridles are much more common on the Continent, particularly France

Glad I'm not the only one who thought his hands were a little, erm, fixed...

Wow, the final two though! What's the plural of Pegasus? As there now seem to be two...!

Is it just me that is disappointed when they agree to tie? To me its a clear knockout competition and there should always be a clear winner

I'm glad the riders didn't agree to a tie and decided to go into the final round. I'm sure years ago it was always 'last man standing' but I suppose they have to have a finishing line (Sunshine looked liked he could have carried on all night!)

Yes - Luca Moneta is a lovely rider! Rides some of his horses without bridles too. Was a treat to see him win the puissance

I love his attitude - the first year he did the puissance at Olympia he grinned the whole time, like he couldn't quite believe he was there. Lovely to see. :)

No wasn't impressed by the Italian either. Also wasn't impressed with verlooy at first his first jump was erratic at best but it got better must have been nerves. Why was he also counter cantering all the time? That was irritating haha.

That small horse that kept springing over the fences with its head in the air oh my god how was it doing that?!

Just about to watch it now on iplayer...oh lord I am not looking forward to this.
All I've seen from this thread is "martingale" "double bridle". Help.
