Puissance - Italian Rider.. Not Impressed!

I was shocked to see the double bridle with the martingale. OK so call me old-fashioned, but I was always taught that this was a real No-NO!! God-rest-her, I can imagine our dear old Pony Club DC turning in her grave if she ever thought that anyone would ride with a double bridle AND a martingale in any public forum. She would describe it as "vulgar" at best........... If any of us had ever dared to turn up at a PC event or hunting with that combination I'm damn sure we'd have been sent home and/or held up to public spectacle of "how not to do it".

Some of us oldies can still remember watching the Italian D'Inzeo brothers showjump in the 1960's or thereabouts, round about the same time as Pat Smythe?? (you youngsters won't know about this!); that was brilliant horsemanship way back then - but this was frankly awful :(

No wasn't impressed by the Italian either. Also wasn't impressed with verlooy at first his first jump was erratic at best but it got better must have been nerves. Why was he also counter cantering all the time? That was irritating haha.

That small horse that kept springing over the fences with its head in the air oh my god how was it doing that?!

I think he was counter cantering into the first fence to stop Sunshine rushing and to keep him focused - just like how Verlooy slowed him to walk before the wall. Really clever and mature riding IMO!

Just watched two rounds of the Puissance and I'm really not impressed with that Italian rider.

And then there was wonder-horse who lept over that wall like it was nothing??!!

Is this the same Italian that has just gunned round the Jump Off like he was being chased for his life? Now THAT is how you ride a jump off! Just keep kicking! Fair play to that horse! Which the commentators said wouldn't have the speed as it wasn't really thoroughbredy. Hmm!

*says her who hasn't done a show jumping class in 20-odd years and only watches Olympia for half an hour every few years when she remembers when it is on!*
