and now he is lame. god knows how he did it but he did XC schooling. Anyway he was sound till farrier came and re did shoe. He has filler in the side of his foot otherwise he would have had a nice big hole (special foot filler)

Anyone else had this how long foot sore/lame. Farrier said he should be ok and will be sore for a few days but he is so fat i dont want him off too long or he will have to come in

Was such a fab day XC too what a shame!

He has never done it before and its like he has pulled the shoe sideways as you could see half of it bu the other half was attached to the other side.

Its obviously sore

My mare did something similar at the weekend - she twisted her hind shoe then pushed the quarter clip into the foot, vet has been this morning and given her antib's and bute, she has to stay in till Friday before she can have shoe back on. He'll probably be sore for a few days but should be back to normal by the weekend.

If he was sound until the farrier came, I guess the farrier must have had to nail higher than usual to find a bit of wall he could nail to. That would cause discomfort for a few days at least. You could ask your vet whether you could give bute. Also, keep an eye on things in case the lameness gets any worse as nail prick can sometimes set off an abcess, but hopefully you'll be all right.

I would look after the remaining hoof wall with Kevin Bacon, as it's easy to get in a downward spiral once you've lost some good wall, and every shoeing weakens what's left (got the t-shirt).
