Pulled tail without pulling!

Tips please as to getting that pulled look without pulling out the hairs- I use trimmers at the moment but on horses with thick tails it doesn't look great- how do those thinning combs compare?

My friend uses thining scissors and a tail rake. You'd never know the tail had not been pulled.

i use a tail rake! i also run it through his mane occassionally and it thins thatout. I dont think you can tell that flints tail isnt pulled

Might try a tail rake then, my method works on our TB eventers with hardly any tail and looks fab, but on my ISH it looks a bit shaven!lol

I agree, if there is any bulk to the tail the tail rake is a better finish.

Clippersharp tail rake is marvellous!! You can't tell that the tail is raked and not pulled!

does the rake pull or cut? are we talking bic razor or epilady style? my boy has a bush of a tail, but hes ticklish, everytime i touch under his dock he'll swish it the other side...need something non-tickish on him!

This is Barons, I use a rake and scissors.

This hadnt been done for a good few weeks so it usually looks neater.

oh nice arse! how do you use scissors? i have a thinning/razor comb thing that i might tinker with but it will prob be blunt after doing his hairy armpits

I'm afraid the tail rake pic does look very obviously cut rather than pulled to me. I prefer to pull, but when a horse really dislikes it (despite doing it while warm, with oil of cloves on etc) I use thinning scissors which gives a similar effect to the rake.

I have the clippersharp one then i got told to try a dog version off ebay.It does just as good a job but for alot less!.

I have to admit I use scissors, however I just do the sides, never cut any of the hair in the middle.

Rema - what do you type in to find the dog version on Ebay? Cant find any?! Would rather like to try one for my horses mane (I dont do their tails).

My horse hates having his tail pulled, I now use a clippersharp tail rake (for coarse hair) and it works wonders, I would definately recommend it.
