Hi,

My boys tail has a mind of its own. . . .

I have come to the descision i want to neaten it up. . .

I dont want to pull it totally just get it looking a bit nicer and presentable as of to my first ODE in a few weeks.

I have crossed fo the option of pulling the tail traditionally as
1. i cant even do the mane tis way. . lol. .
2. I think you have to do it over a few weeks as it can hurt them
3. He HATES his hair being pulled.

I know that there are alot of things on the market to pull a tail like tail rakes, but i was just wondering if any one has got any ideas?

thanks

my mare hates her mane and tail pulled, so i use a solo combe and oster rake for her tail, and had so much practise that it is looking smart, somtimes i think you can always tell if the mane has been solo combed, I think if your horse dont like it, why put them through the torture, on the other hand some horses enjoy it!

I found my own way around the mane problem with my boy. . .the result is good enough for me but is interesting to plait i have to say. . lol. .

i will see if someone at my yard might have a rake. . .

thanks

If you want to plait, then I would advise against a rake, in my experiance you can't do both and get it looking good, personally i would hog and clip to within an inch of its life.Cant beat a good cob

Yea see i really want to hog him and clip him out. .

the only thing holding me back is the thought that his neck is not thick enough yet. . ?

I dont want a hairy beast. . .but i like his mane. . .but i am considering hogging him. .

He has recently had his heels of and his mane pulled. . .and i think that the final touch would be a neat mane but oooo i dont know :S

I cut my mares tail although it looks pulled and no one can tell it's not pulled

Just need to take it steady to start with, make sure both sides are even and you need to cut really, really close

Might be an option?

Ooow glad you posted this, because I need to pull my horses tail ready for next weekend, that's if its possible to pull it in a week, or make it look like its been pulled...got one of those rake things, thinning scissors etc but I dernt to do it....in fear of it looking like bog brush.

Do you run it underneath the hair like you do when doing the mane or rake down over the top? ...or just the sides?

Scissors and a comb here. I don't touch the middle of the tail, just the outsides of the tail so it looks "straight" from the dock to the rest of the tail if you see what I mean? Just back comb it as you normally would and then cut

When you get better at it all you need to do is cut. Takes 30mins tops

i tend just to pull there tails have done for years, i do it all in one go, only takes me about 20mins and then i put a wet tail bandage on over night but gotta be careful not to do the tail bandage to tight. they only look like bog brushes if they havnt had enough taken off or its growing back after its been clipped off (cant understand why people do that it looks horrid).

Sorry don't know how to use those rake combs. I just use scissors on the sizes only then put the flat of my hand on the top of her tail and cut the uneven hairs on top at the sizes - not sure I'm explaining very well?
