I hate pulling manes even tho my horse is as good as gold so I either cut

or solo comb it (normally cut becasue ive let it get too long!!

So how do you do yours?

Cant stand cut manes. Personally i think they look a state.
If you maintain it properly there is little need to continuly pull or cut manes.

I cut and then use a 'hairdresser technique' (don't know the name!) where i just sort of blend in the edge/cut line if that make sense?

I would pull but Frankie is not very cooperative

pull some to make it look even more "natural" !!! Purdey's mane is sooooo thick, it wd take a lifetime to pull it. Saff's is wayward and goes punk at the slightest provocation. Hunting tmrw so bathing and plaiting tonight and putting a hood on for first time...shd be fun! Ever tried to get a sausage back in a skin???

I put other as I have a fell pony and I never do anything with his mane! It is getting a bit long though, its nearly past his shoulder...

I said other! Coz my answer is 'With great difficulty!'

Arch is dangerous when it comes to mane pulling or tidying!

I put other - as I have a TB with the mane of an exmoor - He will not allow me to pull it - we fight to get scissors to it - I do normally win the fight - but it is quite dangerous. I definitely could not plait as he would have to have three rows - one down either side and one down the middle.

I even tried sedating to pull - and the little horror still fought me

....sneakily!!!!
My mare knows straight away even by me just putting my fingertips on the end of mane...she knows I am not just brushing it!!!! The other day I managed to do with solo comb thingy...with no headshaking or constantly moving around..that is a first in 11 years!!!!

I put my cheap pimple gloves on that have holes in the fingers so they are ideal! I dont get blisters then, I just use a normal metal horse head shaped comb, I do half of it and then rub Aloe gel in to his mane to cool it for him bless him as he's so good for me, I have a fag break and then do the second half and its always gone well so far!
I think some cut manes look dreadful, its when they have the forelock cut straight and its really thick!

Depends on the horse/mane. Thick manes get done with the thinning scissors( have blades like combs) taking bulk out from underneath then tidy up the ends at an angle so it doesn't look cut. Thinner manes get pulled with fingers and/or comb. Really really thick manes that have never been done before get raked through with the tail rake before tidying up with one of the above methods.

I stand very close to the withers so I'm out of range of both teeth and hind legs

and then I take a deep breath and go for it with a pulling comb

My mare has a really thick mane so we have to pull it so that i can plait, its the only way to thin her mane, she actually doesn't mind as long as she has a haynet

, and i normally do it in halves, one half one day and the other the next.
My boy hates in so we use the solo comb, so both methods seem to make them look smart.

Haha YO has learnt to never let me near a horse with a solo comb/pulling comb/scissors with ANY of the horses....this after I tried to "trim" D's forelock and he ended up with a lovely "feathered" look!!!! I'm actually still waiting for that to grow out and then I'm gonna ask YO to sort it out for me because I don't trust myself anymore!

As for his mane....again don't trust me with anything! He's native anyhoo (and doesn't get plaitted for shows etc) so I can get away with leaving it (although it is getting a bit thick!) His leg hair stays too (had to promise YO I would keep it clean!) but his tail does get trimmed occasionally just to stop it trailing on the floor!
