Pulling tails - any tips?

Need to sort gingers bog brush out! I've bought an oster grooming rake but think I should've brought the finer one as it's not being mush use (unless I'm just doing it wrong?), so looks like I may be doing it by hand. So any tips please?

can you do a tail with a solo comb? im itching to get at my lads, it hasnt been brushed since november but finally theres no muddy dreadlocks in it now. The scissors are out this weekend for tidying session.
 
My clipper sharp rake (medium) is great for tails but if doing it by hand & your nag will tolerate it use pliers - saves your fingers!!
 
Please dont use a solo comb! They are things of the devil and make everything look foul unless it is an ABSOLUTE necessity!? The rake things arre good, but there is a knack to it. Properly pulled tails you really need to use pliers, and take alot from the sides until you have basic shape, and then play with it until you have the shape you want. I never took enough out of mine, the attacked it with clippers, but have now repulled it (with help from another forum member who told me not to be so wussy!) and it looks great now.

There are no short cuts to a nice pulled tail - elbow grease and a good pair of spring loaded pliers to protect your hands. Clippers, solo combs and any other cutting gadget is a quick fix. The tail will grow back like a toilet brush
