I am planning to pull Charlie's tail during the week.

I have never done it before so has anyone got any tips or advise on how to get it looking good?

Have you got a picture of your neatly pulled tails?

Would a thinning rake be better/easier to use?

I don't show him but think it will help stop his tail getting covered in Poo (his tail is so long and thick at the top that it gets in to the wrong places!)!

Tail rakes are much easier. I used a 'Smart Tails' one.

This was my 1st attempt (10mins earlier it had been a full tail)!

I later pulled it a wee be further down the dock. Started with the sides, then blend in the middle. Keep stopping to stand back and check and don't go too mad to start with, you can always take more of later..................sticking it back on is a little harder!!!

Ohh, that looks smart!

Is the tail rake easy to use? Did you use a fine, medium or coarse rake?

This is Charlie's tail

Do you think it will look better pulled?

I feel sorry for thoroughbred owners, they are denied the spectacle of a proper cob bum.

Did you use a fine, medium or coarse rake to get that finish? I need to buy a new rake as mine's gone totally blunt but I can't for the life of me remember what grade it is, and the name of the maker has rubbed off'f the handle.

I've got a tail rake too...
Horse_Crazy2 - I'd use a medium grade on your horses tail. They are really easy to use, just like a brush! The medium one will tidy it up lovely but wont take too much off, ie: it wont give a really tight show pony look!

I have a 'Smart Tails' one too and also use it on my boys mane!

I used a coarse blade, then a medium one (she had a full tail when I started), but think I would have been fine just using a medium one.
