Fury pup has just turned six months old, and I thought I would share a couple of photos. Completely in love with her, she's so different to any puppy I've ever had before, I'm a complete retriever convert!

12 weeks:

16 weeks: (and panicking I'd actually been sold some labxlurcher as she wasn't very fluffy!)

Gorgeous!

Working bred Goldens tend not to be so fluffy and the fluff tends to come when they get older. My 10 month old puppy has only got a little bit of fluff and is very similar in fluffiness to yours. My 12 year old started off like this and only got properly hairy when he was probably around 9-10 years old!

I much prefer them with only a little bit of fluff! Yours looks like she is going to stay darker too.

How is the training going?

Mine is a little star. We have recall 100%, she has got the hang of retrieves now (no more running off to show everyone what she has!), we have the stop stay whistle and we are getting there with some direction as well.

I'm so pleased that she has stayed dark as I really didn't know what colour she would turn! I knew she wouldn't get as fluffy as the show lines but I just didn't quite know what to expect - she has just the right amount of fuzz on her now.

Training seems to be going very well, she only goes out very briefly with the gun and I want to be careful she doesn't get shy, her recall is quite impressive - but then I only have spaniels to go by :D To be fair I am introducing it to her in exactly the same way I have with the spaniels - she seems to take more on board but I still don't want to overload her at this stage. I still love my spangles but I can't believe how much easier she is in contrast - I'm waiting for it all to blow up in my face! She has retrieved a couple of simple things at the end of the season and brings them straight back - she is usually so pleased with herself she almost wiggles her bottom off!:

Oh bless her - she does look rather pleased with herself!

Glad the training is going well and it is definitely best to take it nice and slowly when they are pups. Keep it fun and then they don't realise they are working - it is just one big game :)

They are smart and easily trainable dogs that given the opportunity are proper working dogs. I think the gun dog world often overlooks them as they are so popular as show dogs/family pets and, of course, the amount of hair and mud they seem to generate is off putting too :)

Are you managing to keep your away from the mud??
