If anyone on here knows of a dealer, pet shop or rescue that sell puppies or dogs that have originated from the Republic of Ireland but have been sold or adopted here in the UK, then can you please contact puppyalert@btinternet.com
This is not an easy one. All puppies and rescue dogs from the ROI can only be legally imported into the UK compliant with the Balai Directive requiring puppies and dogs to be microchipped, rabies vaccinated, Passport, health certificate, checked by a vet 24 hours prior to export and details entered into TRACES, in addition puppies must be over 15 weeks of age. Many puppies under age find themselves offered for sale or adoption we need to root out the people that are smuggling under age puppies and also young adult rescue dogs into the UK, we can only do that with your help.
Many dealers, pet shops and rescues do not write on their Facebook pages, web sites or advertisements that the puppies or dogs they are offering for sale or adoption originate from the ROI. Athough of course I hope that you have not purchased a puppy from a dealer or pet shop, many unfortunately have. If if you know of anyone that is selling puppies or offering rescue dogs from the ROI or Europe and not providing the purchaser or the person adopting a rescue dog with a Passport, details of microchip, rabies vaccination and most importantly too a vets stamp and health certificate, then they are breaking the law and puppies and rescue dogs are being imported illegally. If you know where this is happening then I would like to hear from you. All I need is the details of the premises, name, address of pet shop, dealer or rescue.

Is there a difference in the laws? I've brought puppies back from Ireland on the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead. Passports/jabs etc were not required. This was perhaps 4-5 years ago.

Situation changed in 2012 and updated end of 2014, all puppies and dogs transported from dog breeders/puppy farmers/battery dog farmers and rescues must comply with the Balai Directive, as classed as commercial. The only time the Pet Travel Scheme can be used is if their are under 5 puppies/dogs travelling with their owner or person nominated by the owner but puppies must be over 15 weeks of age. 5 or more dogs/puppies have the classification as trade.
