When the puppies are born what should you do with the umbilical cord can you cut it or should you break it?

The bitch will usually break the umbilical cord - I should ask your vet for advice if you are unsure about whelping a bitch though, or an experienced breeder

Either the bitch will but be careful she doesn't take it too short as she'll cause an umbilical hernia. We tend to take pup and cut the cord ourselves then give pup back.
