my border collie was due to be collected on feb 25th but just had a email from breeder who said puppy had a accident last night and died.
he has offered me choice of others but i am so gutted at the moment so can't make a decent decision.

Oh no... thats terrible.... don't let her force you to make decision. Go with your heart. I am sorry this has to happen to you... I know it's heart wrenching and if you don't mind us (there will be more peeps asking) asking what happened...

well i don't know to be honest i did ask (in email) and have not got any answer back yet,
not sure if it sounds suspicious !! and they may have sold pup to someone else ??
maybe i am a suspious minded person..
or maybe it was breeder's fault and they didn't want to admit it ??

I would wait.

If you get another pup from this litter you will never feel quite the same way as you did about the original one. Give it a few days and then start to search for another litter. That way you can fall in love all over again.

Oh no that is awful. My grans dog was pregnant but with only on pup and we were going to have it but it died. Very sad. Hope you get to find another

I am with spaniel aswell...

To me it does sounds suspicous as the puppy is nearing to go and live with you and they didn't call you personally... If i was the breeder i would have the cursty to call the potential buyer of the said puppy and explained the suitation...

I am so sorry to hear that it must be totally heart wrenching. But I agree with the others I would not buy another from the same breeder- you just would not feel the same about it.
Something else will come up soon before you know it....just hang in there!

Oh dear... at least he's being genuine and helpful. Any reason why she died, if it's not known, i would look somewhere else for a puppy or at least wait for next litter as if the death is mysterious, the other pups may suffer from it. or it could just be bad luck. is he having post mortem on her?

I do feel for you, i have a puppy at the moment which i am enjoying... i couldn't bear to think what you are going through after all that excitement..... Lots of hugsssssssss

sorry but I am still suspicious, I had a puppy that I paid the deposit on - then went on holiday - was due to collect it the day after I came back - and I got a message to say she had died and they were gutted, really sorry but I could have either of the two that were left. It was a rescue and I had seen the other two and didn't take to them so I decided to leave it. today I was on the rescue website and happened to read the visitor book that is on it, where people leave notes about the dogs they have had and there was a man saying he had the puppy - that I had left a deposit on - that the rescue home were devestated because she had died. He mentioned her name and her mothers so I know it was my pup. How deceitful is that. I suspect they went to see the puppies whle I was on holiday and were in a position to take her immediately so I got the sob story, needless to say we were very upset. now just rather annoyed and certainly won't be supporting that charity ever again.

AS it is things worked out well as the puppy I did get from a reputable breeder is fantastic.
I would go to a different breeder - did he have a post mortom done - does he know exactly why it died?

I hope it is genuine - I would like to think that ours was a one off case and I hope whatever puppy you get is fantastic - but lets face it all puppies are

Puppies don't die for a reason.

Stear well clear.

I couldn't agree more Amymay.

Very sad and whilst I'm sure you must be upset I'm also sure the upset will be nothing compared to how you would have felt if you had had the puppy home for even a few days/weeks.

Sounds as though you might have had a lucky escape from absolute heartbreak.

I look forward to hearing about you finding another healthy happy pup x ((hugs))

Personally I wouldn't want another from this litter. They don't just die in their kennel. I'd be worried about the health of the remaining littler siblings.

My friend's foal died the morning that we were supposed to collect them. We arrived at the yard just after the vet had left. He'd gone up and over backwards on concrete and had fractured his skull. He suffered massive brain damage and was PTS. It was very sad, but at least we could reason why it had happened.

In my opinion, puppies don't just die without reason.

It's hard to say without knowing the "facts".
A friend's dog had a litter of labs a while back & Ibumped into him in the vets one morning. He had one of the pups with him because it had been fitting so had taken it in to be checked out. He left it there & unfortunately didn't take it home again. Kind of luckily it was the pup from the litter that they were going to keep if the kept one so didn't leave any buyers without a pup. Whether he told them this or not as you never know if the others may suffer??
Puppies can just fade away very quickly for no aparant reason. A if they didn't have a PM done than will never know.
Also I got a pup from someone got her home & the next morning realised that the pup was missing a toe (had never been there) So I took her back & exchanged her as the breeding lines were top notch. I did wonder how I would feel about it. As I had to keep the other pup a few days before we could go & exchange it & had it nearly house trained!!
Now I don't really think about it & love the one I have to death & don't compare it to the other at all even when driving me mad!!
Only you can decide what is best & go with whatever your gut instinct tells you.
