Puppy and Litter Tray

Four month old St Bernard puppy starting to be a real pain as he is obsessed with the cats litter tray. Only have to open the door and hes ran in and got his nose in the tray before ive even got through the door.

He knows he shouldnt do it and most the time if i tell him know he wont go into it. Just wondered whether was anything else could do to make him not want to go into it.
 
Yep, just a very firm 'NO' or 'AH-AH' but then back it up by rewarding him if he listens to you. So if he is heading that way, you tick him off and he avoids it, quickly reward him with a treat or praise so that he identifies staying away with having something nice happen.

Try keeping him on a lead when you come in so that you can physically tug him away from it if he persists, again, backing that up with verbal command and praising him when he comes back to you.
 
Thanks he is quite good at knowing NO when i see him running to the litter whilst im in the room and i do praise him when he does.

Will try him with the lead when coming in the room i think that will help alot.

Ah cat poo, very tempting!! My dogs used to love the odd snack when we had a litter tray in the house but nowadays they have to make do with eating their own as cats are now house trained! Same advice as CC above!
 
What about how to stop 38-40kg dog climbing halfway up a wooden frame/arch/trellis thingy to try to get cat sitting on top and then sitting underneath barking hysterically out of frustration and refusing to move?

Anyone?

I'm thinking I could use it as a sneaky way to teach him to 'speak' on command.....
 
That a heavy dog! I struggle with my 30kg lad! lol thats why we have chicken wire type fencing set away from the actual fencing otherwise you wouldn't see our 2 for toffee as soon as you opened the backdoor, especially with presence of cat, bird, squirrel, etc!
 
I caught Monty yesterday trying to follow the kittens up onto the windowsill luckly he did listen to NO then lol.

He has a habit off trying to sit on the cats tower thing to which know has had to nailed back together after it fell through with his weight.

Hes 4 months and weighs 24kg already!
 
My two love the cats 'bum eggs', we tried shouting, a sharp smack and loud noise. Nothing seems to work, they just can't resist a tasty snack.

The only way I have found to resolve this is to put the cat litter box behind a baby gate - they still sit on the other side of the gate and stare longingly...but no more cat poo dog breath in my house
