My new westie puppy has taken to chewing/biting our feet when we move..she chases our feet and bites them! Is it just because shes a puppy and she will grow out of it? Or should we be doing something to try and stop it right away? Thing is, when you push her away and tell her off she thinks its a game and comes after you again!

Most my dogs have gone through this stage, and grow up to never bite again, i think its just playfulness, feet make a very nice toy when yor that small and teething.
I find that just ignoring them and politly sliding them out the way helps, well you still get bitten toes, but by not making a big deal of it i tihnk it helps- they dont know its wrong, and i doubt they would understand if you reprimanded them

our first terrier used to do this and we kept pushing her away but it got worse as she got her adult teeth! with my new terrier when he did we got a water pistol and when he niped we sprayed him ont he noise and said ah then didnt look at him ect just walked away it seamed to work

Thanks,
I think I am making it worse but pushing her away as she thinks its a game then!
Its just hard to walk round the house with her attached to my foot!

This is going to sound crazy but you need to squeal like a dog would if it was hurt (really go for it!) and then turn round and ignore the puppy and walk away. She needs to learn that it hurts you and it's not acceptable behaviour. I defintely wouldn't just hope she'll grow out of it because it won;t be funny if she does it to visitors or children when she's older.

Oh yeah, i do that too...pretend your the mum...
I tend to wait till their a bit bigger, how old is it? When their only about 6 weeks old i tend to walk around with a dog attached to my foot

Puppys do...how many dogs have you had?

Almost every single puppy we've had(we train guide dogs for the blind) play this game, a reason why i really dont like puppies, and we keep thinking their going to be biters, and they grow up to be the gentlest dogs ever...i agree with the yelping thing- short and sharp and coming down to her level around her might help too

This is our first puppy..hence not knowing the best way to stop her! Apparently she has only done it twice today mum has really told her off when she did it and she only did it twice after that all day so hopefully she is learning

She will grow out of it eventually, but you may have a few months of it. I tried the squealing with my pup and she took no notice. I found the best way was to ignore her when she did it, if I didn;t react then it wasn't a proper game. She soon got bored and gave up after a few minutes while when I reacted she would go on and on, refusing to stop.

Don't worry, it's normal puppy bahaviour.

Our cavalier did this when we first got her. Think it is because you move your toes and cos they are so near to them height wise and sight wise they are an easy target. We just yelped like another dog would when she bit and she gave us that funny cockeared look Cavaliers do and stopped. She is now 1 (today actually) and has never done it for months and months and doest bit any part of body now not even in play.
