how do i stop it?

I have a 9wk springer spaniel pup,she's just adorable but wont stop biting.
I've tried a firm no,i've tried exaggerating the pain (advice from vet but not convinced it didn'tmake it worse!) and have tried ignoring herand walking away.The trouble is she's not learning and you can't play with her now without her biting so i'm in a vicious circle of:
dog needs exercise
play with dog
dog bites
stop playing with dog
dog still needs exercise.

any ideas?

she'll grab your hand,arm,hair, she's had my face a few times when i've bent to pick something up,and she'll attach herself to your trousers or leg if she can.It's all the time and getting tiresome,she'slearning everything else so well and so quickly.

next time she gets your hand, tickle the roof of her mouth (inside). She'll soon spit you back out. Other option is spray water

I squealed if my puppy bit me. Worked a treat! The shock of the noise made her stop and that's how a dog would react to it as well.

other option..............take a firm hold of scruff of neck and give a gentle but firm shake............and say NO!

this is just imitating what the mother dogs do..........

Goodness no, I wouldn't shoot you down for that! It's a perfectly acceptable method in my eyes.

You need to interupt the behavior then reward the pup when she stops. For example: Use an empty pop bottle or a tin can full of pebbles then when she's biting/mouthing you shake the bottle to shock her into stopping. When she's stopped, immediately reward her with a nice tasty treat.

The advice I was given was that you should do what another pup would do if they were playing and one went too far - so basically squeal loudly (A sort of yelp noise) then turn away and pretend to lick/ nurse your hand (or whatever the puppy tried to bite). Ignore the puppy for a while as well, then go back to the game - it might take many goes before your pup works out there is no game when she bites.

They do stop biting

my puppy is now 8 months old and he did bite a bit when we first got him - but it soon stopped.

I bought the Gewn bailey perfect puppy book - would recommend it if you are looking for some general advice/ tips etc.

I think you need to do whatever it takes, shake bottle, growl back at her, squeal; to make her 'break the cycle and notice you in 'alpha role'. My JRT pup has learnt that if she play bites and I say no she should stop and it's quite cute as she does it when she gets excited but then whan you say no she turns it into a lick and stops. BUT I did grab her by the scruff a couple of times when she ignored the 'NO'. She's 5 months now and does it only when excited.

Try the rule of three. NO in a firm voice, NO in a stronger voice. NO in a cross voice then do something to make her react if no success. Ove rtime you'll get an earlier andearlier reaction Some pups are more sensitive and mine is a real groveller but I've had them in the past where you could have thrown rocks at them ( I didn't) and they's still think you where joking,
