Puppy castration

Puppy is losing his testicles on monday! On the one hand I am like YEY hoping it will calm him slightly and help with training (as in calmness) and on the other hand I am concerned about it maybe altering his personality.

What changes have other people noticed when their dog got castrated? anything? or nothing?

Absolutely balls all to my charlie boy! Apart from his urge to *ahem* things has lessened on the whole.

ah see thats not REALLY a problem, it occurs occasionally, but rarely and he gets told off big style for it!
im not expecting MASSIVE changes, just wondering if it will do much except reduce his chance of prostate cancer etc

i have kept my dogs entire and they have been trained and are no problem , they occasionally have a bit of pushing and shoving but no more than normal , it can be quite an extreme measure and IMO a last resort A lot of puppies will calm down naturally as they get older with the correct training unfortunateley some are not given the option

have you tried any formal training to calm him down ?

Made no difference to our Wheaten pup, nuts before, nuts arfter. Though he calms down a lot quicker than he used to when people come in the house..but I think it may have been down to training.

Ive had both my gsd,s done,never really made a difference to there temperment,

Made no difference to any of ours,maybe a little more chilled overall and lack of intrest in the ladies

Have yet to meet someone who has negative changes from castration,and it makes life much easier for the dog(cant be nice for it to be constantly told off for doing what its bits are telling it to!).

I had my 2 year old boy castrated when he was 15 months old. He was raging with hormones and hell on wheels with his boundary pushing - much of which I admit was due to being an adolescent but he is a rottie and huge and would NOT leave my 6 year old female alone. He is twice her size and was continually pushing her to the ground. The pushing boundaries etc, was dealt with my my constantly setting them for him, but he rarely goes for Jazmine now and I know her back and legs approve! His temperament is wonderful still - same as before. So while I appreciate that some people do not like castrating males, for the sake of all who live here, I felt it needed doing. I did wait as long as I could though - and in a way wish I had done it sooner as he is (no kidding) as tall as a great dane so could have done with being a bit stunted

I have never whitnessed temperament changes in any dog I have ever had neutered, which must be going into the thousands now

Sexually, more common than not.it calms them immensley....re training, no difference......u get what u put in balls or no balls, I will still always neuter, I will never keep an un-neutered animal.

Its not that I am castrating him for training purposes, Im doing it for health reasons, and personal opinion regarding it!
Just wondered if it would help training at all! (damn it! so he will still be a head strong little bugger when he gets out?!)

He went in this morning, looking mighty miffed when the vet went one way with him and me and OH went the other (felt bad, but Il be picking him up at 2!)

Ahh, good vibes for puppy please?!

My boxer was the class dunce all through his training.He was castrated age 1 year, suddenly he found his brain and was able to concentrate (he was at the back of the queue when brains were given out!)
