My border collie puppy is 5mnths old, we are going away for my boyfriends birthday to the brecon beeacons for 3 days in decemeber and so I am kind of guessing it will be rather cold and probably quite snowy!
he is really quite sensitive to the snow and cold, he has recently been walkin in the snow then holding his legs as though he is lame and cant put weight on them (alternates legs) and today he just sat down and refused to walk for a few minutes.
I have checked his feet etc and he is fine he is not lame, so I am putting it down to the cold and him being young so rather sensitive to it.
I talked to my vet nurse and she said it prob wont be bad enough to get him boots which you can apparently get to cover their feet,
but that it might be worth getting him a coat as he is quite thin skinned, and a bit of a wimp! (working dog my butt!)

So I was just wondering if anyone had any dog coat recommendations? I would like one that is like the small horse rugs!

THank you for reading

I know he doesn't look like a sterotypical border collie, but thats why I chose him, he is the spitz of his dad (who was a champion sheepdog in ireland! so can be bad genes!)

Hehe no, he has his annoying moments but I wouldn't trade him for the world!
i do love his ears, normally one ear is up and one down, but it means you can tell his mood as if he concentrates on something both stick right up, if he is chilled they both flop down!
Have you had any training issues with yours? mine is a bit strong headed about certain things! (but he is losing his testicles soon so mwahaha!)

awwwwwww!!!!!
and goody! I am so glad its not just mine that is like that! I quite often get the fingers!
Yesterday he decided another family having a snowball fight looked much more interesting than me! took me 15 minutes to get teh little s*d to come back to me!!! grrr! and that was with cheese and chicken persuasion!
Is yours sensitive to this current cold? or is mine just a wimp?

Hehe it must be a collie thing lol.No i'm afraid he does not mind the cold, well we dont get snow down here in cornwall very often but he will run full pelt into the sea for some seaweed.

Ah see beau is not keen on water will go right up to his belly but then goes right Im good! I htink when the weather warms up I will go to the beach and take him in to see what he thinks though if I am with him!
I think my collie my be a bit of a wimp!

Beau is clearly a special needs puppy!

Bess loves the snow and frost on the grass. Goes mad running through it and taste testing it with her tongue.

I'll swap you for her.....she came in the house today and decided to jump up on the Welsh dresser. Bleeding Springbok!

He loves running through it and playing in it eating it etc, but its like the moment he stops he kind of god GOOD GOLLY THIS IS COLD! and then reacts!!! silly dog needs to make up his mind!

What is equafleece? I would need a waterproof one on the outside me thinks as he will be all over the snow!

I think the weatherbeeta ones look good? any opinions?

Thats the make I was thinking of getting or the deluxe one, it would only be for rainy days or snowy cold days etc

And thank you I am rather fond of him! despite the fact he is bleeding me dry in the bank department!

Id go for an equafleece.....

They are far and away the best coats ive ever had for dogs and wash really well.As they have no straps they stay on great and never slip.
I first bought them for the two JRT's we had at the yard. they were yard dogs through and through and we didnt think they would cope wearign a coat but they didnt mind theres at all. I invested in two more (they were spolit) in the florescent yellow as they were always getting under peoples feet and horses in the dark.

Th equafleece ones though are just fleece aren't they? doesn't that mean they are not particularly waterproof? (as I often find fleece soaks up and holds moisture rather than repel it...)
