Unbelievable, after all the advertising and warnings year after year, people still go out and then dump the unwanted puppy when the novelty wears off, but on Christmas Day??

If he was not so far away I would have him, he is gorgeous!

Ba**ards!! What is wrong with the human race, doesn't it make you so f***ing mad.

I had an email this morning from friends who had to have their 14yo GSD put to sleep xmas eve (RIP Sophie) and I don't know why but I went on to the GSD rescue site. Oh I wish I hadn't, couldn't stop crying for most of the morning and how sad it is.

I get angry with myself, I have so much space here, more than enough land & I really wish I could share it. I would take in as many dogs as I could - my problem is I work - how inconvenient, if anyone has any bright ideas please let me know. I so much would like to help these overloaded kennels.

I read about that pup tonight as well, how can anyone find a 10 week old pup too much.

Still its better off away from them. I had a look at Friesianfans GSD rescue site today too, Shepherds seem to so often get the wrong sorts of owners, one reason why I was not too upset when I was unable to breed from Buffy, and will think long and hard before I take a litter off Evie (if hips etc are good enough).

It's awful isn't it? What upset me was on the GSD rescue website it said the 2 most popular breeds in rescue are the GSD & Staffie - my favourite 2 breeds on this earth. My staffie is lying here sprawled out in front of an open fire & Xara is sitting here beside me waiting for me to drop some peanuts!!

That puppy only 10 weeks old. Could have only been away from its mum 2-3 weeks max. They didn't even give him a chance did they?

I just heard from a friend that they just got back from visiting someone who has had 9 staffie puppies. Some died, some they have homed the rest are going to a rescue. Why breed in the first place??!

Jeez - I wouldn't breed staffies either. I love staffies dearly but they're probably the easiest breed to end up in the wrong hands. Fashion accessory, weapon. The bad name they get and yet they are so loving. Do they need a foster home????? Pressing continue quick before hubby sees

Bastards. What a gorgeous puppy.

As to why they did it...we picked up Ciara today (8 week old lab) and have spent most of it in the garden waiting for her to wee - maybe it was too cold for them?

oh clodagh I was going to post asking if you had got her yet. I am with you on that waiting to pee bit! I spend ages out there with her only to have her come back in and do it. She is getting better though. I am not a fan of puppyhood I have to say, but I still would not give up all the nipping, yelling (from dogs), peeing and pooping and lack of sleep for anything. I am so protective of Layla, I was when I first picked her up even so to think of giving her up for any reason is well, unthinkable.
I think we need pics, yes pics, get snapping

LOL at the waiting to wee. Evie is 7 months old today and although she is house trained (most of the time) , she seems to have worked out that by putting off the "moment" she can prolong the time in the garden. This is usually only when I m trying to give her a quick run before going out. She brings me every toy, chases birds, and everything else she can to make me late

I suppose, to be positive about it, at least they made sure the puppy went to the Dog's Trust for rehoming, rather than passed it round increasingly poor homes themselves.
I can't imagine getting rid of a pet though - unfortunately for me, once they move in, that's it, there's no escaping them.

yes there is that thank goodness. I wonder where they got him from in the first place, surely if it was a breeder they would have taken him straight back. I hope the staff look into it and go with that option if possible.

This is why I cannot breed from any of my dogs, apart from not trusting anyone to look after them (though have now met a whole host of people on here that I would) I don't think I would actually be able to let them go!

Oh and as for waiting in the garden, hurrah that Layla can go out as of tomorrow for walks!

I cant get my head around people like this, I have 2 lab pups a brother and sister, plus I have another lab, and as hard as they are sometimes, the getting up early with them every single morning without fail, the chewing, barking, the list of horrible things associated with pups is endless, I could never even think about parting with them, they are like my children, even my friends that told me I would feel different after having a child about animals, but im still the same my dogs and my horse are my kids aswell, they are for life!!!

It is for this reason that i believe people should be made to take out a licence before buying a pet, but of course, the cost for policing the licences, setting up the database, etc would be prohibitive, and very difficult to actually enforce.

Far too many people buy a puppy or a kitten and have no idea of the time and dedication they require, or the disruption that they bring in their first few weeks as they adjust to your household.

Our new puppy is proving to be a little menace -she chews anything she can get her little paws on, constantly tries to play-fight our other two dogs (who, quite frankly, just dont have the inclination -they are waaay too chilled) she jumps up, nips, etc, but we wouldnt change her for the world

We just adore her cheeky personality, and she will learn good manners as a matter of course through training, we dont expect her to be perfectly behaved right away, and why should she be? She is just a baby, she's got time to learn.
