Clover is 10 months now, which is the average age for a Labradors first season. One of her sisters has just finished her season and another is halfway through, I know dogs develop at different rates but is this a good indicator that Clover might be close? I don't want to get her spayed until she is 18+ months so if she had one now I'd let her have two, although the thread that mentioned split seasons did worry me!

Based on the current tier system and because she is my first ever dog, when she does go into heat she will be placed in tier 100, just to be safe :)IMG_20201118_161815_resized_20201220_093608150.jpgIMG_20201126_132941_resized_20201220_093607730.jpgIMG_20201201_112743_resized_20201220_093607249.jpg

If her sister is in season she probably won’t be far behind.
My st poodle girls( similar size. 22kg) were a 9 m and 11 months..similar size to yr girl, for their first season start.
Season will lastapprox 22 days.l used to keep my girl safe for the whole month..on lead walks..etc
The mid week 8 days on )will likely be blood free, but this is the fertile time..so do take care...
Motto......walks on lead,in low dog areas..

I have some plans on how to help her through it but definitely will be lead walks only, not going into the park and walks early morning and very late at night. Might do just one solo walk during the middle fertile period.

Oooooor she might be like Miss Collie who is 2 in two weeks and still not had a first season.
I never knew season envy was a thing until I got her! ?
Thing is I don't know what I want, her to have it now in winter when it's darker and less people out, or have it later so she only has to have one season! Ultimately it doesn't matter she'll have it when she's ready. Your collie is taking her sweet sweet time though!

I want now as there's no training of any kind, I'm off work for two weeks and can keep a close eye, would also mean that the spay and recovery time would be done before full competition season kicks off....
(Crosses all fingers and toes that fun stuff reappears next year!)

I'm sure Clover will be an obliging kinda dog unlike my feral, deliberately awkward brat!

Someone said if you take your dog to be around another one who is in season it can't set theirs off, no idea if that is true or not and not wise in a pandemic world. I wonder which of ours will have it first!

Well she chased him out the first time, eldest dog chased him out the second time, middle dog chased him out the third time and as I was cable tying yet more wire to my gates just now, I chased him off again.

LOL awkward. Just found out that he belongs the landlord of the pub next door to work (he and his sister live on the street and I was chatting to them just now, so I just casually asked if they knew who owns the Yorkshire terrier that runs about, 'yes, me') so I dressed it up as being concerned that one of the older dogs might have a go at him and to be careful! Cringe.

He came back multiple times? He's desperate! Imagine if you said something like "which idiot owns the Yorkshire terrier?". Are you still taking your pup for walks at unsociable hours or keeping her inside?

My GSD bitch had her first season at 9 months and she is coming up to 2 years in July, so I am currently trying to decide whether to wait a bit longer or have her spayed in June, which is part way through seasons as is recommended. I am lucky that I can walk her as normal and not see other dogs, but obviously have to keep her away from the entire male working dogs.
