Puppy food for adult dogs

My understanding is that the only real difference is the fat and protein content? And that all the other bits in it are in such tiny amounts that it's harmless. So therefor should be fine for an adult dog not prone to weight gain?
 
I think if you really look they are identical bar the kibble size. When we have a pup all of ours eat the same food.
 
It depends on the brand. Skinners Field and Trial Duck and Rice have a higher protein (22≠27%) and fat content (11≠ 18%) in the puppy version, and probably more of certain minerals. It could be good if you are trying to put weight on a poor doer but not so good with a fatty.
 
.5-1% protein difference. The big issue is apparently phosphate content. No reason for puppy food, tbh, so big/pup can have either.
