Please can any one recommend puppy food?
my 12 week old puppy is on chudleys (she was having this when i got her) but is really not very keen on it. I know you shouldnt chop and change but i am a bit concerned about how little she eats of it.

Someone said they all love Bakers, but have not heard good things about this unless i am getting muddled - age related ;)

Thanks :)

Mine came on Hills Natures Best. I switched to Burns after research and good reviews and he's done really well on it.

Bakers turned my puppy into a complete devil, she was hyper constantly and she farted ALOT and there were alot of nasty poops!

JWB has been excellent for her, she has the dry food twice a day, sometimes with egg or chicken and then a JWB wet food pouch once a day. She barely ever farts (OH can no longer blame her!) and her poops are normal and non explosive!

Hi

My puppy came eating Beta puppy. He used to fart terribly on this & his poo was soft & very smelly. He'll eat almost anything (being a lab!), but I moved him across to Burns asap. He did really well on this but he used to bolt it down so quickly that it seemed that he just put his head in the bowl & 'breathed' his food up, although the farting & poo did improve considerably. When he was 5 months old I moved him across to raw meaty bones & we haven't looked back.

He definitely enjoys his meals more now & it keeps him occupied for much longer. I know he has to chew his food & can't bolt it down. He rarely farts now & his poo is so much better to deal with. Unless he starts to have problems with this diet, he'll be on it for ever now - no more commercial food for us!

I am no expert by any means. There are plenty of threads on here which go into good detail. I can only tell you what I do, which seems to be working for us.

I feed a variety of raw meaty bones (turkey wings/necks, chicken carcasses, lamb rib bones, breast of lamb, pigs trotters, marrow bones (as occupying treats more than meals), chunks of heart, liver, whole kidneys, whole fish (usually mackerel, sardines) & fresh eggs (we have our own chickens). The aim is for about 80% bone, 20% meat, with 1 day a week organ meat & 1 of fish & eggs. I also stuff his nightly kong with either mince or tinned tuna.

I get the bulk of my food from Landywoods. They deliver to my door once a month & have a reasonable variety of food available. The fish I get from the supermarket (whatever is whole & ideally on offer). I have also just taken 2 pigs to slaughter & i got all the bones, heads, tails etc back from that. It's no hassle at all really as long as you have freezer space & if you shop around the cost is no more than feeding a good quality commercial food.

My main reason for swapping was the bolting of food, which i just felt wasn't healthy. However, it comes with added benefits. Because there are no 'bulkers' or 'fillers' he is able to digest much more of the food, so he does far fewer poos & they are firm & non toxic, so much easier to pick up. As he gets big chunks he has to tear & rip his food, so strengthening his muscles & keeping his teeth & gums clean. Depending on what his meal is, it can keep him occupied for an hour or so.

I didn't start Dylan off on this diet until he was 5 months old, so he started on chicken wings. It is possible to wean puppies straight onto a raw diet, but I think you would need to start on minced meat & bone (available from Landywoods & other placed) as they may struggle to eat the bones at that age. There are other more experienced people on here who could advice you more if you were interested in starting this with a 12 week old puppy.

Hope this helps a little (I don't usually give out advise on here as I am not the most experienced owner so sorry if this is rubbish!)

I fed Beta salmon and potato the other week and have done so before when I run out of my usual (no wheat and lowish-protein so the only good alternative I can get in a hurry) and was astounded by the size, colour and consistency of the motions!!!
