We have a 12 week old pug puppy, had him for 4 weeks now. We have more or less cracked the pooh-ing bit, but I had put papers down in the kitchen and I think he feels it's ok to pee inside so long as it's on the paper. Do I take the paper away or just perservere a while longer. I take him out and he poohs but doesn't pee then comes in and 5 minutes later has peed on the paper. Any suggestions appreciated!

Scrap all the paper. Thoroughly clean your floor so there is no smell residue. Crate pup when you cannot supervise and pop him outside to wee every 30 mins or so when you are supervising. If he goes to wee in front of you whisk him outside.

Thanks galaxy - trouble is I don't have a crate. Is there any other way or should I get one? I think he still doesn't have a lot of bladder control!

I couldn't have done without my crate. Not only for toilet training, but also to know he was safe etc when he was left. I'd highly recommend getting one.

If you pm Cayla on here with your email address she would send you a copy of her puppy guide. It's very good :)

Thanks. We have a big kitchen with a range and I just have his bed in there with everything but his toys out of reach so he's ok when left - but maybe a crate in the kitchen would be better. Oh dear more expense!

Get rid of the paper! :)
We've just acquired a young GSD (not a puppy by any means) who needs house training right from the start. We're going without paper and/or crate and putting her out every half hour, before and after meals and after any naps she has. I think routine, persistance and patience is the key - as well as lots of praise when they do it outside!!

Hi kellysheroes - will try that. He's had lots of praise for going outside and looks for it when he's pooh-ed. Trouble is I think he thinks pees don't count and it's fine to do them on the paper! My fault I fear
