Barnes is having his final jabs on saturday, and I was just wondering if any of you chaps know how long it is before we can go walkies? He desperately needs to get out and about and I can't wait to get him to the yard!

2 weeks after his last jab. But check with the vet as it can vary depending on the brand used.

Our vets differ in advice then...

We were talking about this the other day. If you buy a puppy and already have a dog, the puppy is coming into the home where the other dog lives so how can he/she be safe from the 7 diseases we jab for?

Ok so about a week after this last jab he can stroll on the ground?

I've been taking him out loads to get him used to sites and sounds but he's getting quite heavy now!!!

I understood that if you already had a dog and then got a pup, as long as you existing dog is fully vaccinated then your pup will be fine - I suppose the risk occurs when you take them out you can't guarentee that every dog has been innoculated therefore its best to avoid all contact.

I just can't wait to go 'proper' walkies!

ETS - I can't spell either!

Yes - def a week - but ask the vet when you get the jab, just in case they are using a brand that is differnt.

I got really excited about taking mine out too - seemed such a long wait before we could go out

Am sure you know this - but is 5 mins walking for every month of their age - so a 3 month old pup will only need 15 mins at a time whilst they are growing. Obviously you can take them out more than once a day tho!

i always say a week after the 2nd jab but it's fine to mix with vaccinated dogs before then as you would be mixing them if you already had dogs. just not out in public places or with unvacc dogs until a week after 2nd jab. socialisation is very important so i encourage people to let them meet vaccinated dogs after the 1st vacc.
