Right now.

I'm sat in macdonalds (goodbye diet...) Waiting for my little pup to come out of x-ray. Vets (and I) suspect hip dysplasia. He also has a front leg issue - he sits at a weird angle. Poor pup.

He's only 7 months old and this is my 2nd dog with HD. :-( *sigh*

On another note - he's been sedated not knocked out - so thank you to those who pm'ed me about that

Fingers crossed its just mild and treatable... I don't even know how they fix it! Big dog's on cartrofen so hoping its as simple as that :-(

I hope it is something treatable. If the hips aren't good the right sort of exercise can make a big difference, hydrotherapy seems to have great results.
Both the x rays of my dogs in CCs link were taken at just over 12 months, I usually book the appointment as near to their first birthday as possible as my nerves won't stand waiting.

Hoping it's not advanced. Mine has it and we limit his exercise and feed bones (for the glucosamine and chondroitin content). It's worked brilliantly.

Thanks all.

I dont know the severity yet as i didnt think to ask about that as apparantly its not the main problem! :(

he has a growth problem in his front legs (he basically sits like a frog - legs pointing out.... one bone/leg is growing too quickly and he has amonth of 30 mins x twice a day of walking on lead exercise and no unsupervised free play....

He's going back in a month - and if he's not improved there is a possiblility of CT scan and of surgery on the leg.

His hips are a "if he goes worse we need to investigate more".... which is fine as it seems he's not massivly progressed with the dysplasia.

I will ask though about the severity once i have my head round it. Poor lad has been crying all night - he was sedated not knocked out totally which he seems wayyyy more dopey for! ?

anyhow - my plan of action is the 30 mins twice a day but on grass as i dont like the thought of pounding the joints of puppy/any dog really on the pavement... am i right with this?

Will be "easier" as i can run one dog and walk the other 10x round the massive field for 30 mins if needby as its nice and flat. thoughts please??
