What is the condition which kills puppies quite fast just after you get them? Sorry to sound so thick. Friend of a friend has just lost two.......

Is it parvo?

could be fading puppy syndrome which I believe is caused by the canine herpes virus - I'm fortunate never to have experienced this myself but I do know how heartbreaking it can be.

Sounds like Fading Puppy Symdrone. Ozzies litter suffered and two out of the five died. Ozzie was the only one not to get sick and continued to eat while his litter mates fitted. The surviving puppies can be seen in my Siggy (Oz if the one in the middle with a black spot on his head).

Ooooooo. Never heard of that one - the puppies weren't litter brothers. One was bought, fell ill and died quite quickly - don't know symptoms. Another from a different breeder came a week or so later, fell ill and was pts at vet's when it went into a coma.

Thanks for the suggestions. Theory being virus still infectious in home and not to get another puppy. I agree.

Hmmm won't be FPS then as I'm sure that only affects them days after the birth (thus wouldn't have been weaned by then). Does sound more like a virus as unrelated dogs affected (unless they both came with problems?). Where did the pups come from? Were they both reputable breeders or puppy farms?

First one was not unreputable but perhaps slightly dodgy - think mother wasn't vaccinated or something. Second puppy was from good stock. The feeling is puppy one infected puppy two, even thogh everything was disinfected in the intervening fortnight. Vet recommends wait three months. I'm thinking why not get a rescue one that's a bit older. I've had my 'rescue' Patterdale for 12 and a half years - she's 14 and been a wonderful dog. Still full of running if a bit grizzled. Can't see the attraction of puppies....
