I have a 7 month old setter puppy fit and healthy bouncing about never had any problems.
At lunch time he was out playing in the garden (safe no dangers or things to get caught in)
He came running in and I noticed he was lame in front
He does dig huge holes in the soil.
He is much worse after he has been lying down and it does gradually walk off
I have not allowed him out in the garden unsupervised since and have walked him for a short walk on the lead to go to the toilet.
He is no better this evening
I was thinking of sticking to the same routine tommorrow and ringing the vet first thing on monday for an appointment.
I wonder if he has pulled something digging (which he does do manically!)
Do you think it is ok to leave him until monday
Should I ring the vet if it gets worse or just wait until 8:30 on monday .The vets are really good and I should get an appointment first thing.
Not sure that I think it is an emergency . He is still full of beans .
He sleeps in a large cage at night so won't be able to rush about.
What do you think

There would be no harm in giving their out of hours number for a chat I am sure?
He maybe has given himself a back or shoulder tweak, would be best to get it checked out. I would ring tonight or tomorrow because I am paranoid and my pup is a drama queen :o

He splatted himself going after a ball two weeks ago, was screaming like Nick the Devil and carrying his back leg, I rang the vet at 11.30pm, threw him in the car and screeched over there.
I opened the car door. He pulled me into the surgery, jumped up on all the surfaces and tried to rag the vet with a towel she was holding while I mumbled 'he was really, really lame a minute ago...'

Thanks
He is fast asleep in his cage at present .I think I will ring first thing in the morning.
I think he has tweaked his shoulder as it looks high up .
Have checked the leg all over for heat and swelling and can feel none. I feel sure it is muscular .
Like you I tend to worry as you don't want to leave any injuries that could cause a weakness or problem later on in their lives.

My lab had a problem like this a couple of months ago. She made her way onto the wrong side of the paddock fence. Over or under we are not sure but those tennis balls are made to be chased you know!

Anyway, she was limping on one of her front legs. At first I thought it was her paw as she had a small split but after 24 hours of oscar winning limping we took her to the vet. Turned out she had pulled her shoulder. They gave her anti inflamatories and told us to keep her quite and not have much exercise.

It took quite a while for her to get better (several weeks).

If you are concerned call the vets - thats what they are there for.

Thanks all
By the next morning he was not limping. Fine all day then the odd limp by evening .
Spoke to the vet today (he is not limping today)
Her advice to not let him free run in the garden and not to let him off the lead when out walking for a few days.
He seems a lot lot bettter today so will monitor over the next day or so .
She said to pop him in to the vets straight away if he starts limping again
Honestly they are such a worry!!!!
Thanks for the advice.
