I am collecting an 8 week old pup on Friday. It is a home breed litter and the breeder hasnt really a clue. I had to remind her to register the litter etc. I have emailed her twice about the KC regn ie whether she has received the papers but no response. I will have to ring her before setting off on Friday as it is rather a long way to go.

I believe the KC are taking about 3 weeks at present and she may have submitted her appln late owing to ignorance. I know the sire is top quality and is registered - the dam looks true to type and no doubt I could see her papers on collection but if the KC docs arent through do I just take the risk they will follow?. The breeder seems honest and we will not be breeding (dog pup likely to be neutered). I dont want to lose the pup either.

I wouldnt be bothered at all about KC registration if you are not planning to breed

None of my last few dogs have been KC registered as they have been ex-racing greyhounds, and I can't say it has bothered them or me at all

I am sure if you keep nagging the breeder then the KC paperwork will turn up before too long

Providing you know the name of the sire and dam and the breeder's name, you could ring the KC and enquire if the litter has been or is in the process of being registered. If papers are important to you I would refrain from collecting pup until they are ready TBH.

When I registered our litter it didn't take anything like 3 weeks to get their papers, more like 3 days! I did it online though so that could be quicker?
I would be wary if she has said she will reg them but hasn't....maybe the bitch isn't reg, did you see her pedigree? Maybe she just doesn't want to stump up the enormous amount the KC rip you off for to reg them and produce the pedigree certificate!
If the pup isn't registered it shouldn't be the price of a reg one. What breed is he? If you aren't going to breed and don't want to show, the papers won't really matter as no-one will ever see them but you!

The KC are completing registrations a lot faster than they used to. There was a problem with my pups registration as the sire (a German dog) was not registered over here. The registration process was still completed in under 3 weeks. As MFH says, your best bet is to ring the KC and check a registration has been submitted. You could also check with the owner of the stud dog that they have completed their part of any registration forms. If you are really not bothered about KC reg that is fine, but you may want to check that the parents have had all health checks necessary for that particular breed.

I agree ring the Kennel club go through to the registration department and asked if the reg has been applied for, if not then you have to make your own decision as to whether you want the puppy still or not.
It costs her £12 per puppy to register the litter, so its not exhorbitant, i would agree with the above poster and find out that the parents have had all health checks relevant for the breed, this is very important, she should have certificates to prove these have been done.
I wish you luck with your new puppy
