Im sure my pets hate me :D

i was out all day today (Work) so dogs have been looked after by the mother.... our youngest (9 month old cocker).... has refused tonigh to eat his tea (!) :o

so he was given boiled eggs, wouldnt touch them....... he had a little bit of ham but really didnt want it (we thought it could be his teeth?)...he threw up about 30 mins after he tried to eat his tea...

Hes been on the sofa all night tonight - refusing to move, no energy, sulking etc - totally un max like.... he's ao been wining quite a lot until he finally settled and went to sleep but he's not happy.

I have no idea if he's eaten something he shouldnt as i havent been in all day,or what type of sick he lobbed up (food or bile)...

anything i can give him/do for him that may help??

he's not crying anymore just asleep on the sofa but is drinking a little...?

If he is off his food dont try to tempt him with little tasties, it wont hurt to starve him for 24hours and then give him boiled rice and chicken the next day, as long as he is drinking thats the main thing.

Held off as long as I could but after he went unresponsive and floppy I rushed him to the vets.

Potential blockage or nasty bug... But he's back tomorrow for poss X-rays and go from there :-(

He had bloods done and 2 injections
Glad I took him tbh!!
Will update tomorrow

Oh lord noodle hope he is okay and its a virus. Poor thing- yes like a baby floppy and unresponsive means urgent treatment.

Mind you with mine if he stopped eating that would be serious- he is a lab!
Keep us updated- hope you get some sleep.

updated;

he went very unwell in the night - being sick and generally sick

he's in surgery as i type :(

he has a blockage and is a very sick puppy

:(

we have to collect him in about an hour and take him to another vets to stay in until tomorrow :(

not exactly exstatic about that as the thought of leaving him in a vets we dont know nor have used before isnt inspiring me but i guess i have no choice :(

I presume you vets recommend the other vets?
In which case would be a bit happier. But i wouldn't be keen either.
To be honest if my vets didn't have a 24hour care centre i would change to one that did for this reason.

Yep we have used them before luckily one of the vet nurses who works at the regular vet practise is there tonight! She's lovely so I feel a but better!

Will post a picture of the stone that almost killed my dog later on. He's stable but not out of the woods yet x

It is easy to believe in 24 hour care, but if not in a city practice it is difficult to arrange, a friend had a dog who was moved from the local surgery post op, then moved again within 18 hours, the outcome was terminal. Said practice has now stopped proving 24 care from its three surgeries. I don't use them at all, since I realised that every visit was a marketing opportunity, advice centred round this.
I now go to one where the vets are interested in the pets and the discuss the care of the animal at a level appropriate to the owner. I have an account, and use their equine specialist too. They don't have equne hospital, but would defer if necessary.
There is another practice 30 mins drive, which does have 24 hour cover, but you have to register the pet in advance at a cost of £30.

sadly max has now gone back down hill

hes pooing blood (he hasnt so far)... wont get up as much but his little tail is wagging...

they are doing more bloods tonight and testing for parvo....

want my little man home now :(

Oh noodle i am sorry. Fingers crossed he pulls through and this is just a minor complication. Thinking of you- he is in best place for treatment.
Miss l toe- Im in a rural area and all 3 of my local practices have 24 hour nurse on site. Im registered with 2 , one for emergencies as only 5 mins down road the other for jabs etc.
They all refer as required to liverpool. And due to my parents dog having multiple issues we have very good relationship with them.
I do no of practices that don't have a stay in nurse, it just seems odd to me.

to be honest im seeing how he is sunday... the trouble is if he stays in any longer than monday, he has to be transfered each night to the pracise which i totally refuse to do

if that is the case then im requesting an immediate referal to leahurst as they are down the road (45 mins) and are on site 24.7 and he dosent have to be moved....

the offending article which cause the whole thing - a stone which blocked his intestine (they had to cut open that too as well as his stomach)

Oh no, how terrible for you both, poor dear puppy.

I have absolutely everything crossed for you, I am sure he is made of sterner stuff and will start picking up soon xx

 that's some size of stone.

He's pooling blood again this morning and now vomiting,

He's refusing to eat,

I finish work at 9ish tonight so will ask if I can go down to see if he will eat with me there

Keeping my fingers crossed for him. As long as he is still on a drip he is possibly best not eating if he is vomiting. I think a referral to Leahurst is sensible if they want you to keep moving him.

If I were you I would get him referred asap. He sounds like a very poorly pup and time is crucial at a young age. I am wishing you all the best x

Oh Noodle, I can only imagine what you are going through, I do hope your pup pulls through, if its any consolation my friends springer has had 2 ops for eating inappropriate things one of which was a towel and wrapped around his bowel. It was touch and go with him but he pulled through, he is now lieing at my feet as he is staying with me.

All our dogs are registered at Langford as I want the best on site if my
dogs need it, the parvo test shouldnt take long, Im quite frankly appalled your poor dog is being moved when he is so ill and echo what others have said and get him to Leahurst.

Hugs to you and keep positive. xxx
