How has yours settled? We're having afew issues when shes left alone. She is so clingy, and loves the company of people. Im sure she will get used to it after a while- hope so anyway, i want some sleep!!
She isnt our first vizzy so we r used to the breed. They rnt quite like other dogs! she has settled fine for a vizsla pup but they are always clingy and are incapable of occupying themselves, you have to physically give them something to do if you want to leave the room without them screaming, lots of chews and toys are essential and actually put them in her mouth to occupy her then leave the room, this generally works well, also at bed time i dont expect them to go straight to sleep just to b able to sit quietly and play with a toy or chew a chew until they fall asleep, but they must b lying down to do so (i physically lie them down and put something in mouth and lie them back down if they get up) our pup has the hang of this now but it will take a few nights of broken sleep!
Thanks for the info. She will lie in her bed next to the sofa and not move all night. However if she is alone she will not settle, she just barks non stop. (over 2 hours, till i gave in. Dont think next door are very pleased!)
Still not sure whats best;
Leave her in cage with toys, warm up teddy thingy, my jumper.
Leave her in kitchen, with toys etc.
Bring cage upstairs, with toys etc.
Put her in summer house in cage, with toys?- although really dont want to do this, but would it make her realise?
Sorry to mither you, just dont know many Vizsla owners! Hope you dont mind.
No they just dont give in like other breeds will! Even if they r really tired they will carry on! We always start ours off in our room in the cage so we can lie them back down if they get up and if they make a noise and dont respond to a 'no' 'bed' and being led back down with a chew then i will get up with no making a fuss and take them to the toilet, (most of the time they dont need the loo but it kills two birds with one stone! they then realise if they make a noise they wont get attention just put outside and then straight back to bed and also that if they do need the loo then they need to ask!) dunno if that makes sense to you?! Eventually I then move them to kitchen when they are well used to bedtime routine with no fuss and noise, can by this stage ask for 'bed' and 'down' instead of physically lying them down and still give them something to do in cage. I havn't had one yet that will do as my other breeds do and just go to bed and conk out within minutes, they still need that period of quiet play, like a wind down before sleeping. You will find it easier to have two cages, one upstairs and one in kitchen? or where ever you want her permanent eventual bed to bed to be so she can also get used to being in there in the daytime, if you are leaving the room during the day put her in her downstairs cage with a chew (again physically stick it in her gob! if you just put it in the cage they dont have the inclination to find it and pick it up to occupy themselves!) and get her used to being in there when you are out of the room.
I dont mind u asking me! As an experienced dog owner I was most perplexed when we had our first vizsla! I wouldnt be without one now though!
Thank you, yes all makes perfect sense. Thanks alot for your help. Might need to pm you in the coming days/ weeks to pick your brains again, if you dont mind.
